Door Handle....

Door Handle....

Postby jay917 » Mon Sep 29, 2003 1:49 pm

I washed my car on Saturday and it rained all day on Sunday and today I noticed the doorhandle on the drivers side was discolored? I have a black 2000 Solara and the handle has a gray faded look with like light grayish hazy circles. I tried using meguirs number 9 swirl remover and it did nothing. Any ideas what happened? I also looked to see if there was possibly a plastic covering over the handles but couldn't peel anything off.

I think I'm going to try and put a blow dryer to it and see what happens. If it clears up then there must be some sort of film on it an moisture is leaking in. Or it may be possible when I was washing it, some amorall or something was on my rag and didn't react well with the plastic handle.

That is the strangest thing I have ever heard of. What good does a hair dryer do?

I'm thinking I got a chemical on it when washing the car. yes it is weird. I will probably just end up buying a new handle cover as its plastic and I can't see it costing that much, we'll see. Will try some other cleaners on it first. It has like a white haze with circles on a black handle. Yes very strange. But I also had spots on the plastic cover in front of the gauges from using armoral/windex/alcohol. You know what took them off? peanut butter. Apply it just like wax. I tried it on the door handle but it didn't work.

Well, I got it off. Since the handles are made of plastic there must have been something on the cleaning rag I was using that reacted with the plastic and not the metal boddy. I used leather cleaner and it took that film off. Was a very interesting problem though and finally can put it to rest :-)

well, it does keep your hair really bouncy but the disadvantage is that you really kill your hair and might end up with split ends. but maybe that's just my hair...
