Installation of headunit

Alright, I just got a new Clarion (CD,DVD, etc.) and I was wondering where I could go and get it installed. I'm in Vermont right now, which sucks because there's no real place that does car audio stuff. I contacted Best Buy and they said they could do it. Is that a good idea? There's also a Circuit City, good idea or not? The guy from Best Buy said that I would'nt be able to watch DVD's while the car is in motion, which i didn't know. He said it was against the law. Are all DVD headunit's like that or is there a way that I can bypass it? He also mentioned that, since they don't really do headunit's, they sometimes get the ocassional line going accross the screen while the car is in motion. Is that something that I can expect from the headunit itself or simply because of the quality of work of whoever put it in? Sorry this is long...thanks

hmm bestbuy is an ok place but then again it varies with place to place...i got my entire system done at bestbuy...but then again the supervisor and his best installer did my entire system. another bestbuy which is near me does so-so work...so you might wanna check it out....but at least if you get ti done at bestbuy or circuit city you can usually get a warranty for the work and usually as long as they install it when you sell your car they'll take it all back out for free. But again....ask around....the bestbuy i got it done at everyone goes there cuz they do better work....so.

yes, it is illegal to watch tv/movies while in motion. Why? simple b/c it is people who cant do two things at once, ends up watching a movie that captures their attention instead of looking on the road.

there is a way to bypass that though.

try to locate a privately owned shop. majority of the times they specialize in just stereo where as a place like best buy may multi-task stations.

^^ What he said, I also have a tv dvd cd unit in my car that i installed myself and it is not that hard.

You can also bypass the part where you are watching tv/dvd. their is one wire that you have to have a constant ground too in order to watch tv while driving. What i would recommend is you put a switch to that wire that way if you get pulled over you can flip the switch so the constant ground turns off and prove that you can watch tv while driving.

i would find a local shop privately. i mean best buy does a good job but any shop that does customer work can do it better..

As iazuncupidi suggested, there is a bypass security part out there. Check ebay for the one that is compartible with your HU.

You could try to install it yourself, because I believe nobody could install it for you (with the video screen on while driving.) for legal issue.

Here in Virginia, I asked around town and got turned down by every single audio shops. And I finally did it myself with a security bypass bought from ebay.

ok, i was talking to a buddy of mine about hooking this up myself so my passengers can watch tv while driving. The guys @ Best Buy and at Yipes said that they have to ground the HU to the E brake so i couldn't watch tv while in motion, because of the whole illegal thing. My question is, can i ground it somewhere else in the car, without purchasing the bypass, and still have the DVD function work while driving? Thanks for the input!!

i don't know about the dvd thing, but i know you can bypass it and besides most shops will do it im sure if you push them. aregarding what otehr people said about where to get it installed at, getting it done at a big place like bestbuy or circuitcity is good...but if you can get it done at a speciality audio shop that's usually better. of course that usually means that it will cost more also...but usually a better place since that's all they do...even though at bestbuy all the installers only do installations...and nothing else..i got mine done there...cuz..well...if you saw my system and and all the work that went into and the few bills i paid for labor...than it was worth it for me..regular price would have been a lotttttttttttttt

Yes, there are two ways of install the video in car.

1. Security bypass chip.
Pro. ingition key on, the chip gets activated, turns on your indash screen. Nothing to do, just simple as that. Easy to install.
Cons. cost money. I paid $40 for my indash Alpine, just so you know.

2. Manually bypass by hooking up to the E-brake.
PRO. save money.
CONS. more time for installation.
You have to wire the e-brake and the foot brake to the HU via the toggle (sp) switch.
Assume that you want to use your indash screen whenever you drive you car, everytimes you start your car, you have to do some works such as : push the foot brake down, put the hand brake up, turn the switch on, off, on, off, on and release the handbrake and done.
Everytime single time you start your car, my friend.

So, it's up to you to choose which way you want to do.

Ask some friends who had installed the car stereo before to help, and you could do it yourself. Save money and learn, that's the joy, don't you think?

Search the forum, you could find information about the HU installation.

Its not always nessecary to have the bypass module. I used a toggle switch which i just plugs the wire too. with the toggle it allows you to have the constant ground you want. Alot of shops will not do it so your best chance is to maybe find a buddy or someone that knows what they are doing to do the install. I will take pictures of how i bypassed mine.

Also on the side note. i have the
Panasonic CQ-7300U unit. DVD/TV
with Navi Option.

Its a nice unit.. i would recommend it to anyone.

instead of getting the bypass switch, can i ground it into the existing ground wire that the factory stereo is hooked to?? Also, i couldn't find any Clarion bypass switches on ebay, besides Alpine, any other ideas of where i can go?
