Suspension upgrade

Postby all_red » Tue Oct 07, 2003 11:01 am

I just started working on my 2001 solara and want to get springs and struts set. As I heard from many ppl the solara's don't have equal drop for the front and rear.
I don't really know what to get, coz Im new in the imports aftermarket. I know there are many brand names like Eilbach, Bilstein, Vogtland, Tien and Tokico. And there are coilovers, shocks, struts, and springs, but I don't know what to get.
I know Eibach springs have more drop on the rear than the front and it goes lower with time, coz I had those on my Camaro. Other than that I don't know anything.
So please if you can explain to me what are the advantages and disadvateges of those different kinds. and what do you recomend.

For me, I want the front to be lower a bit by .2 inches, but if not, i want it to be equal to the rear. I want to get upgrade the suspension for performance (street racing) and also for look.
Thank yall in advance

if you want performance, just go ahead and skip lowering springs/strut combo and aim for a coilover system.

well yea, the coilovers are so expensive. I think i am going with Tokico blues and eibach springs. Did any of you guys see a disadvantage of those?

The only disadvantage is that it is not as soft as stock. The ride will be less comfortable at lower speeds, but I hardly notice and I would fully recommend a suspension upgrade. :D

It you would like a even drop with just springs and shocks i would go with the teins.. i have the teins and i love the drop.. if you wanna see pics you can click on my www button and look. im running tin teins and tokicos...

the front is drop 1.6 and rear is 1.4, the ride quality isn't bad.. i love it.. better then the stock feeling... but that is in my opinion.

If you want an upgraded suspension you basically have two brands to chose from, Tokico or JIC.

TRD used to rebadge blisten struts but those were regaurd as Too Rough to Drive

i already ordered Tokico/Eibach kit. I will install it sometime next week and see how it goes. I am thinking about cutting the front springs if the ride wasn't even. What do you guys think of that?

Cutting springs = rice. Especially aftermarket springs, thats just stupid. The ride quality would def suck if you did that.
