How do I disable my DRL's?

I have a 2000 SLE V-6 and I hate having daytime running lights. They even got me busted with my girlfriends husband. So I would really like to know if there is a way to disable them without causing any unwanted problems.

see in the upper left corner of the engine bay? those two plugs, yellow and gray? unplug the yellow plug. viola!

btw i think the plug is gray, the yellow thing is a sticker?

yeah, well yea. . .that's what i meant. the uh. . .
the yellow plug with the gray sticker. just unplug the sticker by the yellow plug.

btw, i hope you're a female, tomcat. . .

cuz your "girlfriend's husband" don't sound too good.

There's another way to remove the automatic lights when it gets dark outside. This is fairly easy :angel:

Quoted from Steve Schung, "You can simply disconnect the sensor on the dash (passenger side, just behind the windshield) to remove the automatic lights (at night). You have to pop the sensor out with a flat head screwdriver, and disconnect it. You can keep it all together with a ziptie if you would like to reconnect it in the future." :wink:

i got bored enough once and read the owner manual and it tells u how to disable lights and even take them out to replace the bulb and whatnot ... if that helps any :wink:

okay, i did the whole "unplug the grey connector" thing and it worked just fine the way it turned out; NO DRL but the twilight sensor was still active.

NOW, my DRL's are comin' back on, but the plug is still disconnected? WTF? what's really goin' on hurrr?

Are you 100% POSITIVE that its the DRLs? A good one to make sure is to see that the headlamps are the ONLY exterior lighting that is on, not your corners or your rears. If everything is on, it is not the DRL. My frist thought was that maybe your twilight sensor is being covered, causing the car to think it is always dark out. I'm sure you checked that, if that's not it, maybe your sensor is blown or became defective somehow?

nah. it's definitely my DRL's. i noticed it one afternoon when i stepped in front of my car. my parking lights were not on either. another surefire way i could tell my DRL's were working again is that my headlights automatically turn on RIGHT after i release my hand brake at night.

thats the only EASY way to disable the DRL AND Twilight sensor is to keep your e-brake up one notch.. Its not going to hurt your parking brake system because its only one notch up... all tha last notch is for is to trip the sensor turning on your headlights outside of your control.........

Also, theres a thread where you can go inside and actually disconnect the twilight/DRL system all together.... It was a Toyota service bulletin for people entering/exiting a military installation or just plain didnt like the DRL function
