Potential dangers of jump starting with your car

Postby indiglosolara » Sat Oct 11, 2003 1:32 pm

Just like the titles says..

If i used my car to jump start another car as a emergency event. What are the potential dangers are you putting your car in the furture? I know that it will damage your battery a little bit but what other potential part can be damaged also.

From what i have read from other forums and reviews. They mentions this can damage your alternator? is this true?? is it a proven fact?

I have used my car to jump start my GF's car once. But i wonder if this was done more over the yrs what can it damage??

Or better yet even with jump starting a car just once.. what can it potential damage??

Please advise

Do you Jump start with your car on or with your car off??

I've also heard that of you jump start with the car on it can damage your alternator, but with the car off it should damage anything..

anyone know of this information??

jump start

1) both car off
2) hook up the cables
3) start your car FIRST
4) start the dead car

if the dead battery car start first, the dead battery might eat all your battery...and your car maybe will not start since your battery is gone.

I don't think it will hurt ...
