You guys, I think that this could be the beginning of a new level of tuning for our cars.
After seeing the TRD69 Turbo, and reading some articles on twin charged 1MZ-FE, I dont think that it will be much more than what I paid for my S/C from Toyota.
O.k deffinitly new internals, pistons, rods, rebalance the cam. and ect. but the turbo and everything else that TRd 69 posted on his site, came to about 3,400.
Am I crazy or thinking in the right direction?

A twin charged solara?
To much money or well worth the trouble?
Here's what I thought,
S/C 4PSI
JP' headers
Jim's heads
and a smaller turbo than what TRD69 was running. which was a Garrett T3/T4.
Level 10 tranny.
Please post some positive thoughts.
NO, GO BUY A SUPRA POSTS please.

think of this...

have you ever thought about considering on how much more tune time you need? how much more will it cost to keep things in running order. Turboing a car that is not as easy. not only that you have to change internals but think of how much more heat is generated.

and plus do you still think of waranty issues?

turbo sounds soo cool though.

a supercharger and turbocharger will never be able to operate with each other. unless there is a car for the street that has that in operation, prove me wrong.

Why bother though?

The only thing good about it is that you can tell everyone "my car is twin charged!" And then some people will look at you thinking you are an idiot.

O.K. I see where you guys are coming from. But it was just a idea for in the future when the solara wont be my everyday driver. and ultra slow, I'm sure that he spent more than 3,400 on just the turbo but that's how much the stuff added up to that he listed on is Cardomain site.
I'm not trying to look like a ass, but there are some 1MZ-FE's in MR2 that have done what I'm talking about.
So I thought maybe this could be something to look forward to in the future, but as of right now, JP's headers and Jim's heads are my top concern.

-Performance:
Garrett T3/T4 Turbocharger
Apexi GT Spec Intercooler
Turbo XS BOV
Tial Wastegate
Apexi S-AFC
Apexi Rev/Speed Meter
Apexi Turbo Timer
TRD Short Shifter
Clutchmasters Stage III Clutch
Denso Iridium Plugs
Apexi N1 Exhaust

He didnt list (my guess)

Custom made exhaust maniford
Custom made intercooler pipe
Custom down pipe
S-AFC is not enough, he needs something that controlls timing too
Bigger injectors
Fuel pumps
Modify fuel system to return kind are needed
Raise rate fuel pressure regulator (if fuel system is modded)
I dont know how he bypass the mapsensor
knock sensor -> i think you 1mz people keep having issue with it?
you also need to add all the gauges, filters, and exhaust

there are a lot of issues related to turboing a car...and 3400 is very cheap for a turbo kit...especially..im guessing the kit was custom made...is there a kit for solaras? anyways...that does seem low....butr then again...if you made the kit yourself and you got hookups for the parts..than it could be done....

hmm, i can make conclusion here. There is no way you can make a COMPLETE turbo kit for or under $3400. Complete meaning need to incuding installation, turbo stuffs, fuel upgrade, computer (not S-AFC, you need something can control timming too), exhaust upgrade (down pipe and exhaust pipe), gauges, boost controller, and dyno tunning.

O.K guys, I dont want to fight in this topic, I just want to have some fun, and learn alittle more about the turbo systems.
You all are right, it is maybe a total waste of money. Dont think I'm stupid, I just think that this could be a possiblity
With enough R&D, I think that I could go about to get it done, I'm not saying in the next year or two.

Or maybe this topic is too stupid for some to even respond so I'll just stop here.

He spent 3400 on teh components for hte turbo...

He spent I think over 6K for the whole thing to be custom made and installed, not to mention all the fix-it work afterwards. It's not as cheap as you think. Plus I don't think he's getting much boost in there anyway. From what I last heard from him he was running I think 6-9 psi and he blew knock sensors not too long after.

O.K , thanks to all you guys for the info :D , I'll still keep the idea in my head for now.
I thought at first that we could share info, on how to make this happen,
being money was no concern.
To ultraslow, thanks for the list's of stuff that will be need to make this happen in the future.

When I get my scanner, I will scan in the picture of the MR2 with the supercharged 1MZ engine. Otherwise look for yourself in the April 2003 issue of Sport Compact Car on page 226. They show the whole swap.

If your looking for a turbo check these guys out.
