Drifting..

Drifting..

I haven't seen much posted about drifting and from the vids and pics it looks like a lot of fun. What does it take to make a good drifting car? Is it all in the tires and suspension? Are solara's drift-able?

I think you need power to the rear wheels to drift. I don't think that you can do it in a FWD car.

And yes it does look fun :).
Let's just pretend I didn't grow up, or you're going to be terribly disappointed.

Drift : Sliding the rear wheels around to do sharper turns while at high revs so you don't lose too much speed.

That's the theory behind it, but I'm sure it's all crap =P

FR car around 2900 lbs with 400 hp is really good from whta I hear...

Drifting with rwd is easier...
my homeboiz nissan 240 is hella fun to drift in!!! but damm poor tires!!!

but like raveboi says, you gotta be able to gain control RIGHT AWAY after you drift or youll lose control
Retired... its been fun Image

FF can be drifted. the only method of drifting FF is using the Ebrake to break traction on the rear tires.

that is why FR cars have an easier time doing so.

dont bother trying to do this at first glance. it takes A LOT of practice to achieve novice level of drifting.

I think AWD cars drift the best, E-Brake drifting, although fun at low speeds, is extremely dangerous at high speeds (if you hit the e-brake just a little too hard youre toast)
Nascar would be a sport if half the cars were driving the other direction.

i disagree. sure they can drift, but i think they're more for grip driving.

i agree to TRDmole, 4WD are hard to drift because the 4 wheels drives are griping too well.

for drifting, you need a rwd car (preferly FR) with high torque. The suspension need to be set differently from street
http://velocity.isfaster.com/drift/tech ... ension.htm

you also need LSD to get good traction (i learned this in hard way)

i believe people say lighter car (such as AE86) are easier to drift because it is light that you dont need too much power to make it drift, and it is easier to gain control over it too. There are common problems amog drifters are engine overheat, because their car goes sideway and there is no wind can go thru front mount intercooler and raidator. V-mount set up is the solution.

btw, solara drift = lose control.....

It's all about getting your car real low, a really negative camber and lots of tires

supposedly..the best car to dritf in are cars with rear wheel drive and front engine..but than again it makes the most sense that engine with mid engine mount and rear wheel drive would theoretically be the best to drift with becuase of weight bias and such....
