Alarm Bypass

Alarm Bypass

Postby kubi » Tue Oct 14, 2003 11:39 am

I have an 02 SE, which I don't believe has a transponder in the key. I'm getting my alarm installed and the guy doing it is trying to tell me I need a bypass for the ignition. I made a plain copy of my key and it starts the car fine, so that means I don't have the transponder in the key, as far as I know. I called back and told the installer that and he tried to tell me that it might work without the bypass, but down the road it might somehow "lock up" and have to be towed to a dealer to have it "unlocked?" Sounds like bs to me, especially since I don't see what an aftermarket alarm could cause that a dealer would have to fix?
He said he'd install it without the bypass if it works but I'd have to live with the consequences if there are any... Anyone know if this guy is full of it?

he's just taking a safety check to get his arse off the hot seat in case anything goes wrong. i guess he knows about some models having the transponder unit installed on some cars.

if you believe you have no transponder unit, then dont worry about it.

if you havea transp0nder in your key like mine...than you will need a bypass module or to put a key with the transponder near the ignotion to fool the car into thinking you have the key..but then again..for my system its for remote start and im not about to put my only other key for my car in the car near the igntiong...so yes it is possible that you need the key in the car....byut thats only if you have the little chip in your key..which a texas instruments chip...

this guy's full of shet. UNLESS you are doing remote start on the car. if you are doing remote start then, yes, you need a transponder bypass module. (DEI's 555U, or 555X unit)

if you're just doing an alarm WITH NO REMOTE START, then he doesn't need to install a transponder bypass unit, nor do you need to worry about any so called "consequences"...

haha... yeah that is right, i was thinking of a remote start system... duh! hahaha

by all means the alarm is fine to install. based on the simple functions, transponder unit or not, it will not conflict with the alarm.

Well it does have remote start, I was just thinking since I don't have a transponder in the key that it wouldn't need the bypass. I'll probably just let him put it in anyway, since his guide says that all 02 Solaras need the bypass.

if you have remote start and no transponder in the key then you DO NOT need the bypass, which alarm did you get anyways? i would also recommend having the installer putting the Emergency disarm switch behind one of the kick panels that way its easy to reach.

CompuStar 2WSS-AS. Really nice alarm, uses Spread Spectrum so it has a 1.25 mile range for the 2-way. Also does remote start on manual transmissions safely. You can't remote start the car if the car isn't in neutral with the parking break on. Haven't installed it, yet, obviously, but I've heard GREAT things about this alarm. Getting it installed this weekend!
