car does not stay locked

car does not stay locked

Postby Frico » Sun Sep 27, 2009 1:46 pm

I have a 2007 SLE and I had an aftermarket remote start installed. One day I used the remote start in the morning and when I entered into the car I hit the rear defrost button and all my lights went crazy flashing and clicking. After that I noticed that my doors locked will not stay locked. It works fine for a couple minutes but afterwards it unlcoks the driver side only by itself. Even when I lock it manually it unlocks after a couple minutes. I went back to the place where I had it installed and they check everything and of course they say anything they did was installed correctly. So I took it to Toyota and see what they can do. They charged me 110 dollars just to look at it! because they say its not a Toyota issue. Im just curious what would make this happen to my door locks? Would the Valet key that was shaved down and put into the dash for the remote start to work could that be the issue? I also put in LED lights but they are you only active when the engine is on, those lights are tapped into the area where I plug my car charger. Thank You for reading my post and any help would be much appreciated.

If the shop who installed your remote starter used your Valet key to bypass the stock security, then they FAIL.

There are self-learning bypass modules that learn your master key, and then bypass the factory transponder during remote start. I did it this way when I installed mine on my 01 vert.

As for your door locks, They probably used a wrong wire for the "lock" function....there are a few to choose from, but only one of them is correct. It's also possible that they didn't tape up the wires properly, and that "unlock" wire is hitting a ground while you drive.

Sounds like a short to me or the people who installed the aftermarket one are idiots and did it wrong.

my car also does the same. Either its a relay or you will need to get a smart programmer to fix the unarm mode. I also need to get the ecu to VIN since my original ecu brain was fried due to a flood.

Invest in a 20 dollar wheel lock to keep peace of mind-
