Front the front or the back? if it's the front, and you hear a single "clank" or "thud" when you apply the brakes, that's normal. It does the same thing on my 95 Avalon with 104,000 miles. It's done that since it was newer. I used to think I had a problem, but all of the Camry based vehicles experience that sound. It happens on my 64,000 mile 99 SE V6 as well. It's just a characteristic we all have to live with. BTW, i'm still on original pads and discs for both front and rear brakes.

I hear that sound too! I think it's the brake pads adjusting on the calipers....oh so I heard from the Toyota Dealer.

But then again some guys at the dealers don't know squat!

some one told me that the ocasional front end scraping noise was the automatic breaking, but i think you're talking about something different. i don't know if they're right anyways.

Normal. Happened on my camry, happens on my solara. My guess is that since both the pads and calipers are cold on startup, they don't have quite as good a connection, and they slip ever so slightly.

I hear this on my new 02 Solara every now and then as well. Looks like it's normal.

wow, cool! I was worried about this too. I kind of feel/hear it though on the left (driver's side) front brakes when I make sudden stops (i.e. when an idiot cuts me off).

If you're feeling anything, that could be a symptom of warping rotors. That seems to be a chronic problem on camrys.

grrr.. which means I have to check my rotors and see if they need to be replaced right? :(

Another thing my warranty doesn't cover (see "certified" thread).

And I've only had it for less than 1500 miles. Hopefully it's nothing bad, I've only noticed it a couple of times on hard braking but the last few days I've hadn't felt it.

Why do the rotors get warped? Is it the mfg of particular rotors or is it specific to the way Camry's are built and the way they affect the rotors?

It's normal! That's the pads shifting, every time when you change braking direction it sould make that pop/clunk sound.

I've had a similar noise now for a while...it's almost like a low pitched squeal when applying the brakes and it only happens when the brakes are applied slightly. I'm almost at 70k miles now and am still on OEM brakes/pads and haven't had the rotors turned yet.

When has everyone been getting new pads and their rotors turned? My low wear indicators haven't started going off yet but I figure I might change them sometime in the next 5k. What do you think?

Wow, First of all, great job on searching :D Sounds like its about time to change the pads, squeeling is usually a sign that they are going bad. I had mine swapped out after 25k miles for high performance pads, but on my bros 98 camry we got about 60k miles off stock pads/rotors
