Fog Light Switch

Has anyone setup the foglights so they can be switched on\off indepentant of the headlights, using the existing stalk switch?

actually, i've bypassed the switch on my celica to feed it from another source *the side parking lights* with the same switch....hence, when i on the parking lights, i have an option to turn on my fogs' (w/o actually turning on the headlights).......this great at night when locking/unlocking the car, the fog's flash too....

Can anyone provide detail exactly what I would need to do to get the fog lights to turn on without the headlamps? Pics would be great, but if not, any help would be appreciated.

I've got an 01SLE if it makes a difference.

I have an 02'. you can turn the foglights on, but ONLY when the lowbeam headlights are also on. If you turn on your highbeams, the fogs go off. Also, you can not just turn on the fogs, without the headlights being on.

I'd like the switch to become indepentant, IE: that you can switch the fogs on\off, at any point, without respect to the status of the headlights.

I think I'll contact the elec. tech at my local dealer and see what he has to say. more later

I am sorry to be the barrer of bad news..but most prob, your tech will not indicate how to do it...because its ILLEGAL!
Basically, the law states that if you turn on your HIGH beams, your fog's should go off, and when you ON your headlights, your fog's may come on...hence...if your planning to bypass them....to your parking ligths...they stay on, even on high beams! However, with that said...here is what i did with my celica...(actually, this is very similar to what i did with pic's and process).....

i dont think its illegal because quite a few cars have the foglights as their daytime running lights (unless thats only in canada)

see day time running lights TURN OFF AT NIGHT! fog's don't.... there is a difference....Yes, in the US its illegal to do what I gave you links for doing....your OEM fog's are supposed to turn off (if any of you all noticed) when your turn on your high beams...its the LAW (something about visibility) but we all can rewire it nicely! Don't know all the laws of Canada, since you all started DRL's....

Obviously there is a way to wire so you can turn the fog lights on with just the parking lights but where they'll be switched off when you turn on the high beams. Chrysler has this set-up.

But my question is why would you want only the fog lights on?

B\c it's different.....thats what modifying your car is all about. That why I got a Solara...to be different. Anyways, back to my question, has anyone done this on their Solara yet?
