water leaking into the driver's side floorboard -- ideas?

hello, solaraguys and solaragals.

the past couple of times it's rained, water has leaked into the floorboard on the front driver's side. today i was able to watch it as it started, and it seems to originate around the bottom of the fake pedal (or footrest).

via phone, the local toyota dealership suggested that the drain for my sunroof might be clogged -- it apparently drains somewhere between the side mirror and the windshield (?) -- and that if i took an air hose to it, that would unblock it.

i'll have to wait 'til this weekend before i'll have a chance to give that a shot. in the meanwhile, have any of y'all had this kind of water coming in, and if so, was it the sunroof drain, or something else? mine's a '99 sle, if that makes any difference.

thanks!

i believe i've read somewhere on here (idk if u can do a quick search) about it being the a/c lines and they may be clogged/leaked and that actually seemed like a common problem. typically when it rains i may turn my ac on to keep the windows from fogging up.. maybe that's it? i'll try and make a quick search to see if i can find it.
are avalons supposed to be this fast?

Hmmm the draining hose that you're talking about runs through the driver side A-pillar, which would also be my guess.

When mine clogged, I actually got water in my trunk not the floorboards.

The drain lines for the sunroof run down the A and C pillars and exit somewhere behind each tire. Go ahead and check that.

As for the AC, it is one drain line and goes on the passenger side of the center of the dash. It exits under the center of the car behind the rear catalytic converter. That probably isn't your problem.

1: Sunroof drain tube.
2: Seal on windshield
3: Rubber that the door wires are in where it meets the body.

Open the sun roof and look for the drains. If you cannot find them put the car on a level surface and use a gentle stream from a hose to see where the water goes. Chances are they are plugged. Do not use a a coat hanger to unplug them. Something rigid but soft like a straw (plastic or broom) or you can use the hose to unplug them.

To rehab the rubber moldings use a product called silicone grease, you can use the spray but it sucks. All hardware stores carry the grease for plumbing o-ring lubes but the cheapest place is an electrical supplier or Amazon and buy it by the can. You can wipe it on and leave it or work it into the rubber.
The grease will rehab the moldings and make them look new and it will last.
