I was browsin thru thre crutchfeidl magazine and saw they have a solo S2 wireless detector for $329. Is wireless good, is there any other radar detector in this price range that is better?

Stay away from wireless unless you really need it. The S2 is a great detector, but running under battery power it cuts the detection capabilities. Stick with the passport 8500 or the V1

How much does running on a battery cut the capabilities? I was thinking about getting wireless radar detecter too. so i can put use it in my car and my bike (Kawi Ninja, I love driving my car but it can't compare to riding).

i don't know much about wireless radars, but from what i read it said it decreases the range significantly. it puts the radar at a very low sensitivity when not in use. i have a escort 8500 and i'm very pleased with it. the cord is sometimes annoying but you can always hardwire it in.

hey yanks, can you send me a picture of where yours is placed? i still don't know where its the best range.

I have it in the upper corner, to the right of the rear view mirror. I'll see if I have any pics. I'm at school and my car is at home

I have moved the placement a tiny bit, but its right around that area. I love it up there. Theifs don't look up there when they scan cars for detectors, neither do cops

yanks is that the passport 8500? Also coud you take a few more pictures more close at the front of it and from the bottom. I was lookin in my car and i couldnt figure out how it would stay up and where. How do you hold it up? Also is it hardwired? And if it is hardwired, can the detector be disconnected when parked?

Of course it's hardwired, look at it ;) And it stays up with suction cups fine. I never have problems with mine falling off.

hardwired

Postby mycrobyte » Sat Dec 06, 2003 8:33 pm

I hardwired the 8500 in my SC, you can get a straight (not curly) hardwire for it. Just connected this to the fusebox. The Solara gets a cobra mouted to the top windshield, hardwired with the curly wire. No problems with these falling down, except every now and then you may have one suction cup pop loose.

Hardwired is the only way to go. By the way, the 8500 is an excellent detector, especially in advanced mode where you can get the # of radar signals.

Depends on whose review you read. The v1 is a great detector and it has the arrows which is a huge plus, but i've seen a lot of reviews in favor of the passport.

I bought the hardwire cord from escortradar.com and it was real easy to install

check out www.radartest.com for reviews on the detector
