Boost Gauge!?!?

Boost Gauge!?!?

Postby swimshady906 » Sun Nov 16, 2003 11:25 am

:o x10!! I have an autometer boostgauge that reads 20 psi boost and 30psi vac, I hooked it up to the little hex bolt hole where you can get a reading of boost on the sc and it shows 20psi VAC at idle and when i hit the throttle it is less vac but still not positive. I have a manual tranny( dont know/think that has anything to do with it) but do i have to be in any gear to get boost or ... anyone have any ideas? Can you only use a trd gauge or something?

its more likely the other way around. only a few use the TRD meter, a lot use Autometer.

so you hooked up the gauge, good, but where at? how hard did you accelerate? did you go fast enough to build boost?

you can get boost in neutral if you high rev and redline continuously, but i dont reccomend that.

you will have to be in gear to make positive pressure(boost)

The supercharger has a port that stays open until you engage a gear to allow the pressure to vent

Ahh. Alright, i was reminded that the intake manifold always has vacume untill you open it up (duh) and i didnt hit the gas too hard because i want to put some miles on it to brreak it in a little bit. THanks for the info. The gauge it self is where my screen used to be ( now i have more interesting things too look at :P which would be where a stock radio would go. The gap is fiberglassed in now and just painted black.

if you have the smaller pulley, you can get boost in neutral, but you have to slam the pedal vigorously. like i said earlier, you dont want to do that unless you dont care.

breaking what in? the s/c?

i was wondering where you tapped into. the boost port tap on the s/c unit or a vac line? i tapped a vac line before and only got H.g. readings, never boost.

I tapped the boost port tap, the hex bolt nearly under the strut brace on the top of the sc. I guess it would make sense to go easy on it for a few hundred miles? Like when the engine is new... Or no?

I had originally tapped into the port on the S/C to read boost but the fitting was vibrating on the strut bar making a terrible loud nois (only in reverse). I thought it was a tranny problem. Since then, I moved it to a vacuum line and like TRDMole, I'm not reading boost any more. It still shows about 20 in. hg. at idle but doesn't go over 0. -JoeB
