Mobile 1 synthetic motor oil vs. Toyota OEM motor oil

Mobile 1 synthetic motor oil vs. Toyota OEM motor oil

Postby Benji668 » Sun Nov 30, 2003 12:08 am

Which one is better? Caused I've been using Mobile 1 for a long time from the start. I noticed Mobile 1 gets blackish easily during every 3000 miles oil change. I use my car for normal driving and I don't rev. the car at all. And plus, I heard that Toyota OEM motor oil doesn't get blackish as easy as Mobile 1 does during every oil change. Is this true or not true? And Toyota OEM motor oil is not fully synthetic right?

Doesn't toyota use castrol motor oil?
It's better for the oil to be black during a change so you know that the oil is doing it's job well. The oil is black because the oil catches particles in the engine. If the oil is not dark then it's not doing a good job of getting the particles that causes buildup known as sludge.

Well, I learned a lot from this tutorial. Come on guy start asking questions in the questions forums. I know this is a DIY question, but this section is stated as being for tutorials only.
Let's just pretend I didn't grow up, or you're going to be terribly disappointed.

Everyone needs to relax when people don't post in the right place. I mean they should post it in the right place, but you guys like freak out if they don't. It's not like they start the post thinking "Hey, how can I piss off the moderators today?" People will continue to post in the wrong place forever, so just bellyaching about it isn't gonna really help anything. Sorry if I'm pissing any of you off by saying this, but it was just on my mind.

I see where you are coming from, but in the best interested of the forum, we need to keep some sort of order. Thats why we have categories to begin with.

Your point is true only for new members, and if only new members were posting in the DIY section, it would be different. Instead regular members continue to disobey the rules and post in the wrong section and this is why there is a real problem.

Anyways there is a topic about this in the DIY section so please reply in there so we can keep this post on topic

Maybe you should implement some kind of mandatory IQ test before membership is granted :)

The i've seen a lot of people talk about syn versus regular oil...If you prolong your oil changes or if your rev hard and fast..then it would be wiser for you to get the syn. But if you do regular oil changes..then the regular is alright as well.

BTW: Benji668 what oil filter you use with your mobile1?

toyota does not make their own oil, if i remember correctly, its made for them by mobil. toyota then bottles it.
i use Mobil 1 every 4K, no problems, no unusually black oil either.

I think its castrol!
(and the blackness is also dependent on what oil filter you use, right?)
