Engine dress-up

Engine dress-up

Postby JoeB » Fri Nov 28, 2003 7:02 pm

One of my current projects is trying to dress up my engine compartment a little. As you can see I've done a little. Soon, I hope to get the polished Injen short-ram and cold air extension from Danny rather than the RMM intake. Any other suggestions? -JoeB

Thanks for the replies!

The Headers along with the y-pipe and 3" exhaust are JP Performance (LOVE'EM!)

What is the TWS aluminum engine cover? Where do you get it?

I'm also thinking Optima Red-Top battery. -JoeB

Good idea, I think a set of Magnecor KV-85 wires and much needed Denso Iridium IK-22s will be nice.

By the way, if anyone is looking to buy colored vacuum hoses, let me share an experience. DO NOT buy the crap they have in Pep Boys. You can't see the ends through the package but they are VERY thin and will collapse. Summit Racing sells Akimoto Silicone hose kits for $30, GREAT quality thick hoses. 1 kit was perfect. I had a couple inches of hose left over.

I've never replaced my battery. It's a 99, over 4 years old and no problems yet but was thinking of getting an Optima Red Top. I'm a little concerned that I will start getting too many different shades of red under the hood and they won't look good together. Was thinking of a complementary color but thought I'd avoid yellow, as aa good friend of mine says, it's McDonald's (katchup & Mustard).

Opinions? Don't be shy I know everybody has one and I have thick skin. -JoeB

Chrome your strut tower brace, that would look cool. Maybe powder coating your valve cover or even chroming some stuff, that would look hot.

all_red, I know what you mean. It actually looks a little worse in the picture than in person though. If you look at it again, I added a little more red, was nervous doing it too. Because the color of the car is so dark red and the flash is so bright, it makes the other red look more orange. On the other hand, the picture makes my valve cover look better than it really does. In person it needs some attention, either polish or powder-coat. I'm worried about doing much with the strut bar because it is very close to the hood. It has worn a hole in that hood blanket. I have a carbon fiber hood from Fiber Images coming on Wednesday. I really like that red strut bar available for the Gen-2s though, good idea. I'm thinking of doing a braided hose from the radiator... If I would've thought about doing this before, I'd have gotten the headers polished.

HKS, I hope your post isn't deleted and I don't know the thread you're talking about that was locked. Maybe it was locked for a reason that didn't involve you. I like your idea about chrome. In my opinion, you can never have too much chrome in the engine compartment. -JoeB
