Installed my intake....is this normal?

Postby MGLax13 » Sat Nov 29, 2003 2:09 pm

I installed my intake today and it all went smoothly, did it in under a half hour so thanks everyone for all your help. When I started the car up, it made this like nasty whizzing\whining sound. I don't have a S\C so it's not S\C whine. Then, by the time I backed out of my driveway and got down the street and around the corner, it stopped with that noice, but the car felt pretty weird, like it lost some of the pick up. Then by the time I drove kinda aggressivly for a few minutes, then I really felt the car become more responsive so that's good, but my question is, what what that whizzing all about?

The whizzing sound is normal, it's sound of air getting sucked in. It usually happens during cold startups and goes away after driving. I think it's a nice sound :D , but I took off the intake.

Thanks. It is kind of a nice sound, but it wasn't all taht nice when I started the car for the first time, hoping it would start and work fine, and I hear a new sound...lol. Do I have to do anything so the ECU propperly adjusts? I had the battery out fo the car for about 25 minutes while I was installing the intake so I don't think I'd need to disconnect the battery again or anything, just curious if there's something else I should do.

negative. just let the car idle to re-map the fuel settings and all. get used to that hissing sound b/c you are going to hear that every time your car has been resting in a place for several hours.

its also true that you lose low end torque, however you get a slight gain of hp. next thing is that since the install of the intake, there is also less air restriction comparing to the stock air box. that would answer your car feeling a little more responsive.

Injen intake with the heatshield. I bought it off of esculatus. It was pretty much new, just a little dirty. The heat shield had a nice polish with no blemishes. It's pretty sweet, I've been driving around with my radio off lately so I can listen to the engine...lol

This has been discussed before for the I4's...

no point in getting intakes for the i4... unless you want the "noise"
even Injen intakes would do no good...

just stick to the stock airbox and grab a K&N filter!
more logical this way anyway
Retired... its been fun Image
