Engine Mount

Engine Mount

Postby bfl62581 » Fri Dec 19, 2003 7:07 am

All,
Does anyone know of some sort of aftermarket engine mount, or possibly even an engine mount for another car that will work for the 2000 Solara? I am looking for a STIFF (preferably SOLID) engine mount. My buddy has an 01 Eclipse and just got a SOLID mount from a Sebring. With the V6's torque, the difference was ASTOUNDING. I want this, I want this bad!

Thanks!

Use the "Search" and you'll find it. One of the forum members, EricSol, developed polyurethane engine mounts. That's the only aftermarket out there that it know of.

Just so you know, the adverse affects to this is you feel EVERYTHING your engine does in the car, and can make the car borderline undrivable. One of the key purposes of an engine mount is to absorb engine vibrations and such, that's why they're rubber.

I've made my own mounts before with silicone, but I'd say stick with the stockers unless absolutely necessary.

thnx for tha tip!

perhaps it is the grade of material used that can determine drive quality as well? eric has poly urethane, while you had silicone. it may be different, it may not be different.

i guess we will have to wait till eric chimes in....

He did say he tried several different materials though to try and balance out the side effects. I don't think he would have had them produced if they were that bad.

After 2 months of development I have come up with urethane replacement motor mounts. The front hydraulic mount is replaced with a traditional urethane mount and the rear soft rubber bushing also gets replaced by urethane. These mounts are virtually indestructible and my severe wheel hop has been reduced to a slight chatter or shudder. The mounts leave the car with only the slightest shake at idle and after 1k rpm its as smooth as stock. I tried different compounds and I could totally eliminate all the wheel hop but it left the car shaking violently at idle. Traction has increased tremendously, I could only go about 1/4 throttle in 1st gear before it would spin the tires and now I can almost go wide open without wheel spin.
Please stop humping my car, owner privilege!
