Knock sensor blown after dyno

If you set the fuel adjustments on your S-AFC to give you more fuel, you might not get knocking unless you really get the rpm's up high. However, you'll probably get another CEL, along with severe timing retard. This happens because the knock sensors seem to be hypersensitive once they've set off the CEL the first time. They will continue to set off the CEL until you replace them.

Today I went to toyota, they want to charge me 9 hours of labor. is this seem reasonable? Total include parts I am looking at $1019.
Eventually this will become my 2003 christmas gift

Do you live around Portland, by any chance? If so, there's a shop there called Foreign and Domestic Affairs. The guy who owns it is a Solara owner who has provided a lot of insight to members of this and other Camry/Solara sites. He's done a lot of work on his own Solara, and is very familiar with it. I'm sure that you'd get a lot better price from him. Toyota will always charge much more than an independent shop.

Yes, I was referring to Jim @ Foreign Affairs. He's a really good guy, and I'm sure he'll be able to give you a more reasonable price. Tell him that I said hello. Good luck.

I have had the same thing happen with the blow konck sensors I ended up paying $600 for the labor and the both sensors.

if you have some time read the above thread for all the details.

My advice is that you make sure the guy doing the dyno tune does it very conservativly. The dyno does not simulate real driving and when they just floor it and your car is not getting any fresh air the knock sensors cant take it. Pluss how often do you drive at 5500+ RPM, the real key is to mkae sure the air to fuel raito is consitsent and does not have too many rich or lean spots. Yoy also have to take into consideration the teperature at the time the guy tunes it. My car runs much better when its cooler than when it is hot. High compressoin pluss boost and a dyno equally a blown knock sensor. Enjoy your solara for what it is a nice luxury car to cruise around in, I'm all for getting the most out of it but be aware everytime you let someone screw with it on a dyno it can end up costing you $500 to a $1000. I decided a long time ago once I got my SAFC tuned right once that I was done messing with my car, especially since its perfect already.
