rear speakers

Postby Elfumador » Thu Jul 10, 2003 5:40 am

Its a real pain in the ass, it took me all day to do it, you will need to remove the back side panels so of cousre you will need to unscrew the seat belts from the frame, then once you do that you will see 3 plastice srew-ins on the panel where the grills or on once you take the screw-ins off the you pull the whole thing out where the grills are mounted, then you'll see the bolts that hold the speakers, I would just take it somewhere, I was so frustrated and tired when I did it. :drinking:

I replaced my own rear speakers.Definite pain in the back.Check with Crutchfield.com. They might have some online instructions that will help.If not you will have to remove almost evrything plastic in the back seat to get the rear deck off to access the screws to remove the speakers.Get some extra push pins cuz you will likely break a few prying off all that molding.

disconnect sub woofers

Postby johno1 » Sat Jan 03, 2004 2:46 pm

I would like to disconnect the sub woofers in the rear of my 2001 Solara. I have the JBL upgrade and don't like so much bass (even on minus 5 setting). The dealership could disconnect it but if it is not a hard job, I would do it myself. Any ideas or suggestions?
Thanks

the car doesnt have subs in the rear. i think you are refering to the rear deck speakers wh5ch are 6X9's.

On the coupe this is true. But on the convertible there was a subwoofer added.

Chances are he is talking about the coupe.

Why not replace the 6 x 9s which generally are meant for bass with 6 and 1/2s or a speaker similar to that. You can get adapter plates. Or disconnect the rear speakers

i didnt know the convertiblw had a sub. but yeah the stock speakers are better than most "stock" speakers. still tho, if minus 5 is too much bass for you then something must be wrong. :P
