Stock talk about the Generation 1 and 1.5 Toyota Solara which were produced from 1999 to 2003.

AT's don't have serviceable filters, right?

Probably has been covered before, but one guy at a VERY reputable transmission shop said he thought they did. I told him I thought they had an internal screen (not serviceable). Dude said he drives a Camry. Anyway... I think I'll get the vacuum flush done at Toyota ($119) this one time since I have NO maintanance history and my car has 70K. I tried to get the service history, but no one had any records. If anyone has a nationwide access, that might be an avenue (PM me). Or maybe the previous owner did it themselves or at an independent garage or not at all!! It runs fine though.

This is a good question?? Do we have to replace anything in the transmission for maintiance.?? I just do the drian and refill every 15K and Flush at 30K. Will this be sufficient enough...???

If you have owned the car since new and you drive cool, then the gravity drain will work fine. I'd say flush it about 60 or 70K just to be safe. 15K is a safe interval to just do a drain and fill. If you have no idea when it was last done, a complete vacuum flush and fill is a good idea. Then, every 15K drains will work. I'm still thinking there is no filter; there is only an internal screen which can't be replaced unless you rebuild the tranny.

I'd say you're good. My car... I have no idea. It may have just been changed or never ever been changed. It has 70K and looks to have been well maintained though. To be sure, I'm just going to do a full vacuum flush of the AT and flush/fill the radiator.

hmm I just have jiffy lube do the flush and fill every 20k. I drive the hell out of my car since I got my SC. I have had it installed for a year now with no issues. Altough sometimes my tranny slips a little if I punch it and the car is not fully warmed up.

The AT got an internal screen underneath the tranny. I took it out to wash it when I did my own tranny flush and installed the tranny cooler.

The key is to use synthetic tranny fluid AND get a tranny cooler.

They actually suck out the fluid that is in the torque converter. A drain and fill will not get that out and the torque converter can hold a couple quarts I believe. You get 100% of the old fluid out with a vacuum flush and fill. Think of it like you drained your oil, but left in the oil filter. Probably wouldn't hurt anything, but you would have old and new fluids mixed together.

Now I'm confused about the screen. Dude at the one trans. shop said they would clean the screen and the pan. Then, I hear that you can't get to the screen filter without getting into the AT. Hmm...
