Funny you should mention it. I've heard very good things about AMSOIL. I ordered some, should be here in a day or 2. I ordered the 5W-30 ASL. -JoeB

They had the stuff on the shelves at the performance shop that did the exhaust work on my Solara. They swear by it. Yoy can't switch once you have started. they say it is good for up to 10,000 per change.

Do a little research on it. It's not the be-all end-all, but it's good. I have used it, and it didn't do anything more than standard Mobil 1 or Valvoline synthetic oil (which is what I use now). There's a couple of companies like Amsoil out there, but it's hard to justify that extra cost. I'd say stick with the usuals.

I have used Amsoil in the past and while it is one of the best synthetics, there is not a great deal of difference from any of the other high end synthetics. I did quite a bit of research into synthetics and oil filters and when it comes down to it there isn't much difference between Royal Purple, Amsoil, and Mobil 1. Amsoil has a ton of web pages talking about how it's the best, but those are all sponsored by Amsoil.

Exactly, how eles would they set themselves apart from the rest. They need to do comparison to sell the product even if it's a one time sale to try out. It's a good tactic. I work with alot of marketing folks and they say that to have a good selling statagy is to have a third party anylize and then give there opinion on ho is better. Kind of like car and driver mag.

Ya only they're not really 3rd parties, I would bet. Look around at the sites you find on google and you'll probably see what I mean. After reading studies used comparing different oils there is nothing that amazing about Amsoil. Sure it's a great oil, ranking among the best, but not enough to get that much praise without some influence.

I use Amsoil in both my bikes and noticed a difference from dyno oil. I always used dyno oil in my cars but will be switching to syn next oil change. For my cars I think I will give Mobil 1 a try just because I can pick it up at any store. With any of the FULL syn oils you can't go wrong. If I was putting in a full order in to Amsoil I would stick with that in the cars to. I usually get enough for 3 full services on the bikes at a time. When you sign up for a preferred member ship and spend over a $100 you save 20% which brings the cost real close the Mobil 1.
