Car Starter Upgrade

Actually I would guess they're really simple to install since all it is is a remote start. Much less work than installing an alarm. In fact I've seen one that came with a video on how to install it yourself.

They're not simple to install. There are certain precautions which must be in place, and those make it a pain to install. You need to wire it to your brake, if the car is in neutral it shouldn't start, if the hood is open it won't shouldn't start.

Believe me the only way you are going to get a $40 remote start system would be a cheap cheap system and you'd have to install it yourself

That's exactly what I was saying. I have a Compustar 2WSS-AS which I installed with the help of a friend who does tinting/alarm/audio installs. I know just how hard it is.

Well, I didnt put one in the solara yet, but I got a DEI Rattler remote start from Circuit city for $49. Installed it in my wifes Jeep Grand Cherokee in a few hours. step on brake, it turns off, in neutral it wont start, open the hood it wont start or shuts down. Has door unlock (her jeep needed another relay module for the 2nd door due to 5 wire design), added horn honk on lock/unlock and flashing led for only a couple bucks more.

Check out 12volt.com for more help

oh, and get ready for the bottle if this is your first install... :drinking:

At employee sale (at Circuit City), I'm going to get the best one we have, not sure which one it is, but it's 300 w/o remote start and 400 with. I'm still not sure whether or not I want it. I'm scared that I'm going to press it on accident and it's just going to sit in the parking lot for an hour, just running.

auto shut down feature

Postby mycrobyte » Tue Jan 20, 2004 11:07 am

The cheap DEI Rattler I got has a configurable auto shut down, so that after 12 minutes it shuts off. It can also be set to start the car every x number of hours and run between 12 and 60 minutes.

If you have installed a car stereo, you can probably install one of these. If you installed an S-AFC you can absolutely install one of these.

remember to solder your connections.
