Traction Control

Traction Control

Postby Brad » Tue Jan 28, 2003 7:05 am

Hi guys - I've got a '99 SLE V6 and the Traction control has been giving me problems for some time now. It has been cutting in and out periodically over the past couple of years and now it seems to be out for good. The light shows Trac Control Off and pressing the button does no good. Is this a common problem? Can anyone give me a starting point on what might be wrong? Thanks a lot.

You might wanna check to see if you have a burnt out fuse. I believe theres a fuse for that on the engine bay fuse box. Refer to your manual for details.

If its cutting in and out it would not be the fuse.

Your switch could be bad. I think you are going to have to take it to the dealer

To revive an old thread (see, the SEARCH function DOES work). I had something similar happned to me today. Raining out, gave it a little more throttle than usual around a corner, and the traction control went wiggy on me for a second (felt like it kicked in, then out), then the TRAC OFF light came on, and stays on. On top of that, I just had a check engine light come on today too.

I just bought the car (it was delivered on Thursday), a 2000 SLE, so I'm going to try resetting the ECU first, then see what happens. It ran fine, so I'm thinking something stupid like EGR or o2 sensor or something.

Just curious as to what would cause this.

No. It was only an option on SLEs.

It's not a standard option, you might not have it.

if you have it, it'll be in front of the shifter, in front of the cup holders.

GOING BACK to the question at hand, anyone know what would cause the traction control light to come on and stay on (indicating that the traction control is off)? When I push the button, nothing happens - it stays off. I reset the ECU, and that turned the light off, but I'm wondering why that happened.
