$250 installed is definately a good price.

By your math above installation alone should be 150 or more, leaving only $100 left over for the unit

Yup, a good alarm with integrated remote start INSTALLED is gonna be $375 and up. I would be leery if it was cheaper. A stand alone alarm might be $250 installed, but even that is pretty cheap.

would the installation of the compustar be more difficult than the matrix or viper for a diy? the installation seems expensive. unless i can find i deal my friend and i might do it.

Nope, they're all about the same. I like the Compustar because it came with a blue LED ;)

Some peeps will tell you it's easy, some will say it's impossible. The truth, of course, is in between. You will have to cut factory wire harnesses and be sure which wires go to which circuits. And keep it all clean and tidy. For me, it is easily worth the $150 or so for the install and bypass module and warranty...

i was charged 100 for the install of my RS3..plus about 180 for the alarm itself, pretty good deal, cnsidering the amount of work involved.

In case you guys didn't know, you can buy a blue LED from Fry's electronics for about $4.00 (that's what I did). So I wouldn't make a decision just on the color of the LED.

The decision was in now way made on the color of the LED, I know how easy those are to replace, however it was a pleasant suprise! I've usually just seen red. I got the Compustar because it's the only one that will do remote start on a manual transmission safely ;)

you could do a manual remote start on any alarm, they dont recommend it but it can be done.

I said SAFELY. Compustar's alarm will not start unless the car is in neutral with the parking brake on. It is the only alarm on the market that will do that, the rest of them will just smash into a wall if you try to start them with the car in gear.

thats easy

Postby mycrobyte » Mon Feb 02, 2004 5:14 am

most remote starts come with a number of safety features, it is quite easy to wire them up that way. The 50 dollar cheapie I put on my wifes jeep had a wire which was used for neutral or park sense, it is quite easy to wire this up in series with another sense for the parking brake since our solaras already have a factory switch in their.

just takes some wiring creativity. Don't get suckered into spending big bucks for a big name unless there is another feature you really wanted.

her rattler system has door lock/led/programable run times and many more features.

best of all installation was zero dollars and only took a couple hours at best. :drinking:
