Struts/Springs Installed but ABS came on!

I got my struts and springs installed last night at some shop down here for $90 (which i think is a good deal). When I started my car the ABS light came on. Since he was closing at that time he asked me to swing by this afternoon so he can check it. Also I noticed that my left rear side is clearly lower than the right side. Have any of you had those problems?

For 90 bucks, seems like a great deal, but Id question their knowledge... maybe the catch was for you to come back with problems and charge you more... hope they dont though!!

But yeah installing your new struts/springs require them to unplug the ABS... while they did that they couldve either damaged or didnt fully reconnect the ABS... have them check out the connection

with the unevenness... hehe i dont know what to say... bad job?

congratulations, you'll probably be buying a $200-300 ABS sensor. I've had my ABS light on for half a year now, because I let the morons at the local 'Performance' shop install the struts and springs, and the dick snapped one of the ABS lines, and the only way to fix it is to buy a new one and replace it. Sorry to hear your mechanic was incompetent.

i had the same problem when i got my springs installed. i took it to toyota dealer and the warrenty cover it they even gave me a rental while it was being fixed.

^ you are one lucky customer. most toyota dealers will turn your car away once someone outside of toyota has touched the car.

well i don't know about that (lucky), the toyota guy told me after they checked my car out that by putting the springs it had nothing to do with the senser so they went ahead and replaced it.

Then they didn't realize what had been done. Installing the springs/struts was most likely the direct cause of your ABS sensor failing

wow, that sucks, i feel like everyone on this forum has had this happen to them when they got their stuff installed at a local shop. i think we need a sticky for this.

"WARNING: When getting spring/struts installed, be sure to let your mechanic know that your abs line WILL break if they dont support the axle, arm, thingy before removing the struts. If you're doing the install yourself, put a jack under the arm before removing the struts."

yea it does suck! Anyways, I took the car back to the shop and they checked everything and said "it was fine, but something gotta be wrong with the computer thingy". So I took the car to a Toyota dealership and got them check it and the bummer is the rear right speed sensor is damaged and need to be replaced and that is about 400 bucks. So I went back to the shop today and talked to them and they were shocked that they'd have to pay 400 bucks. So now they are talking to that dealership to make arrangement for replacing that sensor.
I feel sorry for not paying 200 bucks for that dealership to install the struts/springs from the begining.
I'll post tomorrow and tell you whats gonna happen.

yea my abs light is on the machanic said theres nothing wronge w/ the abs b/c the brakes work fine, i guess one of the lines got damaged?

400 Bucks?...i've had mine out for over a year now. I never really knew how much it would cost to replace. I noticed mine went out as soon as i lowered the rear section of the car. Oh well. Someone actually contacted me about this last year. I forgot the name of whom I talked to, but he said that he found his sensor at the junk yard for like 150. Good luck on that though.

Actually the shop is gonna replace it since they are the cause of damage. I wouldn't really bother with ABS coz it doesn't really work as it supposed to espicially in snow and rain. With 5-speed you don't really need ABS.

Just because you don't like ABS, doesn't mean that it doesn't have a purpose. Save your feelings about ABS for the thread dedicated to it.
