Power Brake Booster replacement???

Hi, all.
I just came from toyota dealer and they told me I need new power brake booster. It will cost me $1115.08 plus tax and shop supplies!!!!!
Has anyone replaced brake booster on their solara? Is this a rip off? Please Help!!

find out of that's the same thing as an ABS pump.
if that's the case, that price is about right, its a very expensive part.

what year and how many miles do you have on your car?
also, do you take your vehicle to this dealer regularly?

I got 99 solara se v6 with 75,000 miles on it. Meaning no warranties. I do take care of car and I think I had most of the regular maintenance done at toyota dealership exception of simple things such as oil change and air filter change.

I don't think it's same thing as ABS pump. It's called power brake booster and they told me the part itself is $776 bucks. This has to be the most expensive repair I had to do on my solara.

The symptom is that this booster thing has a leak and it makes a hissing sound when I press the brake pedal. I guess if this thing somehow fails altogether, I can't brake. Anyway, I am gonna give my solara another chance and fix this. I hope nothing major comes up like this ever.

I have the same sound coming from my solara. Man that is expensive I really dont want to spend it but I have to take care of my baby.

if you've had all your previous work done at that dealer, they can help you out, you just have to ask.
like, ask them if there's anything they can do for you since you're a good customer. i know that in a pinch we do that sometimes. like the customer pays the labor and we get toyota to pay for the part. they call it "Goodwill." pretty much reserved for special situations where you want to help out a good customer even when they're out of warranty.
ask, see what happens. at the very least if they won't help you with goodwill, they should be able to give you 10% off the whole job and maybe a free rental car. if they won't do any of it, tell them they just lost a customer and you want to talk to a manager.
they should be able to help you in some way/shape/form.

were there any other symptoms besides the hissing sound? I test drove a 2000 Solara SLE yesterdya and the brakes were a lot more squishy than i am used too, I am wondering if this could be the same problem. Thanks in advance for your help,

i know someone that needed their brake booster replaced recently on their 02 camry v6 and it was about 920 for parts and install from a local shop (baltimore)

I talked to toyota dealer and they said they will let me know if they can help me out in any form by tomorrow. I checked other dealer and they quoted about same price so I am gonna stick with the one I go to regularly.

I think symptoms will be hard to notice unless the booster has some sort of leak that makes sounds like mine. Actually mine brakes fine believe it or not. I am almost tempted to drive around without fixing it. But I better fix it... I have new brake pads so brake feels strong and sure footed.
