I recommend 235/40 tires rather than 225/40. Reasons are the 235/40 more closely matches the overall stock diameter size, the extra side wall fills the wheel well better (less gap), and it will be much more forgiving with pot holes. I have 235/40's on mine, and I've driven over some nasty pot holes and never bent a rim. I think that's more than some people with 225/40's can say. If you are keeping your ride height stock, the 225/40's will look dumb. I originally had 225/40's on mine, but I exchanged them because they looked WAY too small for my stock height. Btw, be sure to get the proper offset (I believe 42mm). I got either 38mm or 40mm (can't remember which), and when I have one fat person or two normal size people in the back, the tires rub the fender wells on bumps. I know, I know, I can roll or cut the fenders, but you can avoid this by just getting the right offset. 8)

Btw, you can compare tires sizes against your stock size at www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html . Using this tire calculator, you can easily see that 235/40 is the way to go. Stock size for V6 is 205/60/16.

235 will rub a lot more often than 225.
