I'm trying to decide whether to keep my car, or sell it and buy a used 2003 Acura CL-S 6spd. I think I could probably sell my car for about $10k to $11k, and the Acura CL-S would probably cost around $23k-$24k plus tax. So it would essentially cost me another $13k-$15k more to buy the Acura.

The pro's of keeping my car are:
-I only have about $7K left to pay off
-I still like the looks of the Solara (especially when lowered)
-It only has 45k miles, so it should last a while
-If I keep it, I'm definitely going to lower it, and buy the new Kenwood DDX7015 in-dash DVD player (it's double-din, so it would look sweet in the Solara)

The pro's of the Acura are:
-Much faster (5.9sec 0-60mph, which a little over a second faster than my car)
-Would probably only have 10k to 25k miles
-Navigation system (which can be modded to accept video from a DVD player/tv tuner)
-Better looking/classier dash and leather interior. My car only has cloth interior
-Step up in luxury
-Am I missing anything?

So what would YOU do? Thanks for your replies! :fadein: [/url]

Btw, here's a pic of that new Kenwood in-dashDVD:

I like the Acura. Very similar design to the Solara, but faster and more luxurious. Also, it's got the navi and less miles. I like the Solara alot, but the CL type s is real hot too.

Acura no doubt. My friend has a TL-S and there is no words to describe it.

I was in the same boat as you, and I decided on the Solara. Just too many issues that Honda was supposed to be beyond that are still VERY prominent on the Acuras (like the transmissions especially).

I'd keep the Solara. Better on the insurance, looks nicer (IMO), and it's going to last longer than the Acura.

are you kidding me? i have a 1988 acura legend V6 5 speed and that thing runs like its brand new. i know some one that has 345k + (believe it or not) 87 acura legend coupe V6 with original tranny and motor. still running. honda/acura make awesome V6's. especially the engine that comes in the CL-S. 270hp i think with i-vtec. im sorry i love toyota but that really beats the new solaras with only 240hp and i-vvt.

I too like the acura. But as far as the kenwood deck, i think the Eclipse avx2423 is a much smoother player with the same features.

ok so first of all it was all honda/acura V6's.... now its just the MDX, accord, and odossy's transmissions... im confused on what exactly you 'have seen problems with'. now come on people seriously, were talking about a 2003 Acura CL-S 270hp 6-speed luxury coupe vs. a toyota solara with a cool tv/deck w/e...

I know we're specifically talking about CL here, but my point was that other v6 honda/acura badges developed tranny problems. Mind you 4banger are what i consider Honda's specialty.....(its not like i'm dishing out hondas totally...nope...)..If you are unfamiliar with this..then just go to google and search or just go onboard some honda forums. Heres' a quick search i did -

Thanks for the replies guys. I think I'm kind of leaning towards keeping my Solara. It's kinda fast (V6 5spd), and if I get a wood dash kit, it will look luxurious for $15k less than the Acura. And if I lower it and install a TV system (such as in-dash, or in the sunvisors), I think I will be pretty happy with it. I'm happy with it now, but I would just enjoy it more after the mods. So the most my Solara will cost to fix up will probably be less than $2000, which is way cheaper than the CLS 6spd (even though it is a cool car).

Btw, if you go to www.acura-cl.com, the tranny problems are with the auto trannies. The CL-S 6 spd is manual, and so far there have been very few 6 spd tranny-related issues. I don't think I'd buy an auto CL, even with the Acura 100k mile tranny warranty. 8)
