Break-in period for a new clutch?

Break-in period for a new clutch?

I just got a new ACT clutch kit installed into my 99 5SFE and was wondering if there is some sort of break-in period for new clutches. Any input would help!

I was surprised at how different the new clutch's engagment point is from stock, it's like driving a totally different car...it's definitely harsher then I expected it to be, giving my quads one hell of a work out

Not really. Most people don't anyways.

Maybe take it easy for about 500 miles during driving. Some or most aftermarket clutch companies recommend the same. It gives the lining time to burnish into the pressure plate and flywheel. As the same for any friction material. Means seldom hard launches, dropping the clutch, speed shifting, etc.

When I had my Clutchmasters unit installed, there was a notice from Clutchmasters that said to go easy on it for 500 miles. That seems to be the accepted break-in period.
