Spoiler Installation

Postby Grazi07 » Fri Feb 27, 2004 9:07 am

I went to have an estimate on my car's spoiler, and was given $150 for 2 hrs of labor to install a pre-painter spoiler w/ LED brake light..... seems a little steep, I'd think it could be done in less than 2 hours. Am I wrong in assuming that?

Mechanics (or whatever you want to call them in this case) do not charge by the actual time of work done. The ASE sets a average time that it should be completed in and you are charged that amount.

Example
Oil changes can be done in 10-15 mins (even less w/ the lift and stuff they have x_x)... but the ASE standard time for an oil change is 30 minutes.

So maybe there is an ASE set time for installing spoilers? haha x_X

I was quoted $225 for painting + instal for my solara spoiler...Judging that its close to 125-150 to paint = i'd say the difference is for the install! (75-125 sounds right).

I installed mine in a little over two hours and I'm not a DIY kind of guy so I was taking a risk, but it worked so 2 hrs. or even less sounds right.

Im also gunna do mine myself, since the one I got was prepainted. I havent done it yet since I'm waiting til after inspection next month *just in case* anything goes arway.

I'm very DIY about most things, but this will be the first piece of body work that I've ever done. It doesnt seem too hard, but I am going to have to get about 25 bucks worth of tools to do it right.

Just picked up my car today, and they charged me the full 150... oh well, they did a good job so I guess I can't complain that much. My reason for reposting about this is in regards to the brake light out light being lit. I know several ppl have complained about it, and the bodyshop told me that for $250 they can upgrade an electrical box in the driver's side rear trunk. Curious as to whether or not this is valid....

No offense, but I guess I'm glad I'm not the only one with this problem, I thought that perhaps I did something wrong in hooking up wires. I'm no electrician so I don't know about upgrading the fuse box, and having that happen for $250 doesn't seem worth it. For some reason I think that perhaps a resistor could draw some extra power or something to turn the "brake light out" indciator off...but like I said, I don't know much about circuitry...if anyone has any suggestions or solutions we'd appreciate it! :)
