Cold Air Intake wrap?

Postby SolaraT » Mon Mar 01, 2004 6:32 pm

Hey guys, what is this item realy called? What key words can I search for? You know that special wrap that people put on their cold air intake setup to keep the incoming air cooler up the pipes?

Thanks,
Louis

Found it! After Masive searching. :-? "Air Intake Heat shield" is the key word. Thanks guys.

Is this worth getting even if you already have an aluminum intake pipe? The more protection the better a?

Aluminum conducts heat excellently, so Al. won't be any help if you're trying to keep your intake air cold.

i had chrome intake piping on my legend, that after driving it a while i felt it and it was burning hot. so, i went to autozone and bought a can of 1200 degree black engine paint. i sprayed numerous coats until i was satisfied. it cooled down my intake a lot. the piping is a lot cooler so i hope that keeps the air colder.

I think that air intake insulation would be of some help. Because aluminum conducts heat so well, it does heat up rather quickly in the engine bay, therefore it also begins to warm the air passing through it.

On my SC's I insulated the piping with an aluminized fiberglass tape as well as isolated the filter from the engine bay. These modifications reduced my intake manifold temperature by almost 70 degrees F.
