If You Had a Choice: auto vs. 6-speed

After reading many posts on this forum it seems more Solara drivers have or wish they had manual transmissions. Why is that? I've owned both manual and 5/6 speed transmissions. Sure, it's fun to manually shift a car. But for me it becomes a pain after a few months. I'd much rather own an automatic...less work.

So my question is mostly for V6 SLE owners:

If the SLE V6 was offered as a six-speed or automatic, which would you get?

I realize there are only eight votes, but what I thought was true is becoming fact. So many people in magazines, car TV shows, even on this forum talk about how they wish this or that car was a manual. Seems to me most are happy with an automatic.

How about a six speed automatic? :D

I would hate driving a manual.

With my daily stop and go commute in Southern California traffic, the auto is the only way to go.

i'd like the 6speed so i could launch the car better and get more power to the ground, but around town the auto does fine for me.

A sequential 6 speed manual gearbox, I don't care if I have to replace it every 2000 miles. ;)

Personally, for this car, an auto will fair just fine, 6 speed auto even better! :P

Agree with the above... Good luck launching your stick so perfect that you could consistently be quicker than an auto.

Manual sucks if your car is slow :P
If your car is fast, you would only miss out on the fun if you got an Auto. :P

auto considering the Solara's not a *puts on flame suit* sports car. It's a comfortable/chill ride.

btw, do you post on nasoic, pak?

Same here in the Philadelphia traffic. I think the tiptronic, manumatic, autostick, clutchless manual, whatever you want to call it is a cool feature because it gives you the luxury of leaving it in auto mode. When you feel like shifting without the hassle of a clutch, you move the stick over and shift yourself. It's almost like driving two cars-in-one.

Solara's should be equiped with a 5-speed E-shift, that would be kinda cool.

SLE is top of the line..since we share blood with camry, the similar would have been XLE. XLE was never offered in m/t. The Le's were...Hence my point being: I'd like my SLE as being A/t. I would much prefer having a m/t option for the 3mz on the SE's only!
