Clutch and flywheel

If i plan on staying stock powerplant-wise, what clutch should I go with?
Would i be better off staying stock or would a semi-performance clutch
feel better when I'm jetting around town? Also is a lighter flywheel a good idea? Has anyone benefited greatly from one?

You'd probably be OK with the stock clutch. An upgraded clutch will help you if you have upgraded your power and need something stronger to get that power to the ground. In my case, I live in a very hilly area, and found I was burning the stock clutch on stop and go traffic on some of the steeper hills. The lightened flywheel is a nice mod if you're already planning to upgrade the clutch. It helps you rev a little quicker, which is a nice feature. To me, it's not enough of a benefit to justify the cost of dropping the tranny to install it unless you're also replacing the clutch, though. You may get some mixed reactions on that, however.

well.. it depends on what clutch u plan on getting... i've driven cars with some pretty stiff clutches and it doesnt seem like u want that... they grab like crazy though so its up 2 u... not all clutches r like that though

I just had an ACT heavy duty pressure plate and disc ($338 shipped from Ptuning.com, fast shipping!) installed and I can feel a difference in torque. ACT estimates a 40% torque increase over stock, but I doubt it's that high on an I4 with only intake and exhaust upgrades. I didn't upgrade my flywheel because I couldn't find a Fidanza for an I4 for anything cheaper than $370 and I wasn't willing to shell it out...as much as I wanted to. But either way, I'm enjoying my ACT clutch, but it's pretty firm and takes a little while to get used to the new engagment point.

honestly i'm on the stock clutch and have beat the he11 out of it for the last 30k ...i have 137k on my car now and even now it still bites when i race and screw around

For what it's worth, the Clutchmasters clutches have more holding power than stock, and yet engage easily and don't require any more pedal pressure than stock. A Stage 1, or possibly a Stage 2 would be your best bets if you don't go for a supercharger.

I can not seem to find a clutchmasters clutch for the V6. ACT i can find for 350-400, and also an exedy for around 200.. would the exedy basically be stock? good/bad news?

Clutchmasters doesn't list an application for the Camry or Solara. The one that applies is the one for the MR2 turbo.

I finally installed my light flywheel and am very happy with it. The motor revs much quicker and take offs are not a problem. The motor feels free and responsive not having to spin those 9 additional pounds. I am using the Clutchmasters stage 2 combo w/the flywheel. Overall a nice upgrade.

Yes. It will fit our cars use the same tranny as the MR2 Turbo.

The MR2 flywheel will not fit, the bolt pattern on the crank is different.

I know that Fidanza makes one, and I'm sure that at least one other company makes it, but I can't remember who it is. Check on some of the other Camry/Solara forums to see if anyone has purchased another brand.
