Just some useful info:
I have a 2002 Solara with the JBL audio setup. I've noticed that every once in awhile my speakers pop, and it turns out that my girlfriend's Nextel phone i95 picks up it's signal and causes the speakers to pop.
So for any of you with nextels don't go nuts trying to figure out why your speakers are popping.

From what I know of... Cingular does that too hahaha

its duz it when it tries to relevel its reception (since cingular sux here!)... and when your actually on the fone, your radio/cd gets all staticy!!

Good thing i dont have cingular anymore

and this happens in many cars, not just the mighty solara

I own a Nextel i95 also, but I dont get the popping sound in my car. I do get it on my PC speakers, it happens when I place my phone to close to the puter.

I got cingular and I dont have that problem. I do have an aftermarket headunit though, if that makes any difference. I do get a little static if I put it in the pocket under the headunit, but other than that, I get no interference

My i730 Does it to most speakers it's close to. Sometimes I can predict that my phone is about to ring because my computer speakers start ticking right before the phone rings.

The noise is the phone trying to pick-up a signal from the nearest cell site anttena. You will even get ticking when not on the phone or recieving a phone call, this is the phone's regular cycle of finding a cell site to communicate with.

You'll get used to it... I did. :-?
Yeah, I've owned 2 Solaras so.............................Image

Actually, it's electro-magnetic radiation. It's similar to the radiation emitted from power lines, and it certainly is a wave form of radiation. Kind of interesting to think that a cell-phone's signal is strong enough to interfere with a picture on a monitor/tv and radio signals, and we put them right next to our brain every day. :scatter:

still not anything like alpha/beta/gamma/neutron radiation
