Do it at 3000 miles and you will be fine. Some do it at 1000 miles which is overkill.

oil is cheaper than metal and is the cheapest insurance to keeping your engine in good shape. But yeah, nowadays it's not necessary to change oil every 3k.

the dealer puts the sticker in my car for every 3k miles... i think it is just so they can get more money or something... i just add 2k onto it and i'm fine. 30k miles in a year = 10 oil changes... that is crazy

well if you drive that much you're probably driving a lot of highway and can get away with 6k to 7.5k. But again, for warranty purposes it's best to do with that owner's manual or to be extra precautious, what the dealer says. I think the manual says 5k although the service manual says 3k.

3750 miles if you run in "Severe" conditions as the manual states.

for my first 20 or so oil changes I was getting it done at 3,500 miles...now that I'm using synthetic I'm probabaly gonna go to 5,000 miles before changing... Is this a good idea?

One more question do products like ZMax and Prolong help reduce wear & tear in your engine. I heard and seen on infomercials that they reduce less friction and heat. Is this all BS?

All those additives are BS. Read this:

Both the toyota and Lexus (I know they are the same) tell you in the Faq section NOT to extend it even with synthetic.

It's your call, but ALWAYS do what the manufacturer says or exceed it if you don't want to run into any problems in the future. Especially warranty issues.

I think the very first one is at 1000 due to the heavy load of metallic debris (first time the engine actually does real work) then after that, the interval stated is 3000, but people here are saying 4-5k... I changed mine after the first 1000 because I was worried around metallic debris and stuff... but now I'm aimed at around 3000-4000 (depending on the abuse I gave the car)

It might not help but it definitely doesn't hurt it.

btw, anybody change their own oil??? i looked in my owner's manual to see if i'm tuggin' on the right bolt to drain my oil pan, but it doesn't say. i asked about this earlier, but no one replied. anyway, i got it changed by some wannabe Jiffy Lube place, and when they were done, i tried to see if i could remove the bolt that i was trying to get off, but it was still stuck!

the bolt i'm trying to remove is tigher than a 12 year old!Image
ewww j/k

am i messin' with the wrong bolt??
