Headlights only last 1 year?

Headlights only last 1 year?

My bulb went out after a little over a year. They were some GE cool blue or something cheap from walmart but at least they were not stock yellow looking. My roommates Silverstars also went out after about a year and he bitched to Sylvania and they said that is about how long they last 'cause they burn hotter but they sent him another set anyway.

We were careful not to touch the bulbs with our hands when installing them.

Has anybody else noticed this or does it have something to do with my climate?

I hear that lights with a "tint" are overcharged to put out more light, since the tint, which is what makes them put out "whiter" or "bluer" light, actually blocks some of the yellower light to achieve that color. That way, they put out the same or more light, even though the bulb tint.

Assuming thats true, bulbs without the tint should last longer.

I got silverstars right now, but if they blow, I think Im going to Xtravisions or HID if I have a wad of cash to waste when the time comes.

no matter what brand of color light bulb you have, they tend to live shorter than the clear one (yellow).

The color tint is the cause of the short life.

I had some GE Super Blue's also, and one them just recently went out. I think mine lasted about a year and a half. So now I have Sylvania Silverstars. Btw, it actually says on the Sylvania website that the life expectancy is about a year for the Silverstars.

While I was at Walmart, I happened to see some Xenon lights made by GE for SUV's. Since they're made by a reputable company (GE), I'm assumuing they would not fry the wiring harness, or burn out after a month. Does anyone know if these might last longer than a year?

About 1 year before I had to replace mine, but once a year is ok with me since the Silverstars are really nice lighting at night :D.
Let's just pretend I didn't grow up, or you're going to be terribly disappointed.

I have DRL, and my stocks lasted about 4 years. Actually they were still working before I took them out for Silverstars. I also used to drive around with my fogs on all the time and those were still working too. I keep them off now since I realized it really doesnt help much in normal weather and keepin them on will kill the short lived silverstars much quicker.

DRL shortens the life drastically of any bulb.

i've had the sylvania SS for about 4months now. seems like they're still running good.

damn hid.

Cool feedback. Disabling DRL was the 2nd mod I did to the car, the 1st mod was debaging.
