Talk about aftermarket Toyota Solara Gen 1-1.5 upgrades.

Does this void my warranty?

Does this void my warranty?

So my dad decides to call up the Toyota dealership that I got my car at today while I'm putting on my new rims to ask them if putting on aftermarket wheels would void the warranty and they said yes, it would instatnly null and void the warranty and not only the wheels and tires (obviously) but also all of the suspension, the engine and the transmission. I got the car used and got that certified used warranty add on that goes until 100,000 miles. Now here's my question...

Is this total bullshit? There are so many cars on the road with aftermarket wheels and most of the Solara's on this board have aftermarket wheels. Are all those warranties voided? Is this my Toyota dealership just being assholes or what?

It is true if the contract deliberately says any modification, whether it be a increase in performance or appearance or installing of a worse quality product, will void contract. The contract MUST say that. If it doesnt, then like you said, only the tires and rims, and maybe the suspension, would be void for warranty work, but not the engine, AC compressor, transmission, etc.

Tricky 'rear-end' warranties.... need a damn lawyer to tell you what you can and cant do :bad-words:

The warranty says this:

"This warranty does not cover any breakdown, mechanical failure or expenses, which are due to, result from, or are caused by any of the following:

(Then it names alot of crap that doesn't apply)

-Any alteration to your vehicle or any component thereof that does not meet the manufacturer's specifications"

Now obviously, that means any damage caused by these wheels isn't covered, which I would expect, but if the overall wheel size is the same as the factory wheel size and the weight is close, then lets say something in my enginen fails, could they refuse to fix it under the warrenty and blame it on the wheels.

You got a contract with a warrenty company? Unless he has gone through that experience with your same warrenty company with another customer then he would be just talking through experience of other warrenty companies decline of warrented claims.

I had aftermarket wheels on my 95 camry and my old extended warrenty company, "Tender Loving Care" AKA TLC did not give me any trouble wth engine/electrical/suspention type claims. Remember that the service and repair dealer are the ones that call up the warrenty company and tell them claimed information so the service and repair place is probably being "A DICK" and telling you this cause they don't make as much on warrenty claims as out-of-pocket. To me that would in fact be BS especialy if it does not say it on the contract.

I had someone at an old toyota dealer in Florida that always looked out for me and even exagerated items to get more fixed. i.e. I took my car in and told her that I had blue smoke coming out of my exaust (Not noticable unless your staring right at it and only upon start up) and they realy went out of their way to help me and did a $1500.00 job worth of repairs to the engine. Seals, gaskets, ect..
