I dont think it matters what type of oil filter you have if you change your oil every 3,000-3,500 miles.

I don't have it but TRD does sell a High Flow Oil filter. This will be more beneficial for Boosted cars. I use the K&N oil filters.

one of the good things with the TRD filter is that besides the higher oil flow through, it traps more particulate matter and keeps the oil cleaner.....

I've always used the TRD oil filter (the red imported one) with Mobile synthetic oil. Never have any problem. It's a bit expensive (~$25). but I think spending ~40 per oil change is better than go to the dealership and spend 25 on ordinary oil and filter.

i think the white TRD is sufficient.....it is high flow also.....and only about $10!

i thought the red one was for racing?

hmm the dealer told me the red one is directly imported from Japan while the white one is made here. So now I am confused. Maybe you're right that the red one is an overkill...

i am sure both TRD filters are good, regardless where they are made....

here is a link with good info on the white filter:

K&N and Mobil 1 filters are made by the same company (Champion Labs), they just have different purposes. The K&N filter is has a slightly higher flow velocity than the mobil 1, but the mobil 1 traps a slightly higher micron level of particles. As such, K&N is more suited to those that drive their car hard, while the mobil 1 filter is better for those who drive more gently and benefit from better filtering. Personally, I used the K&N.
