I was looking to buy a used solara, so I went to the dealer and took the 99 out for a test. A alot of pops and pings from the rear end over bumpy roads. Did not like that at all, then the driver power seat does a rocking motion when coming to a stop. So Dunno, does the noise mean it would require new strut caps. I mean It handles the bumps well but I hear noise from the rear with it all buttoned up. :(

Sounds a little weird to me. I have a '99, and it's still very quiet; no rattles or other noises that I can think of. The only time I hear vibration noises is when my are subs blaring. Regarding the seat, however, there was a toyota service bulletin about it. It was there when I bought my car, but the dealer was nice enough to fix it for free. Refer to this thread for more info:

Oh yeah, don't forget to get a carfax report either. Might save you a lot of headache down the road.

Turns out the rear bumper was loose

Postby Delshin » Sat Apr 10, 2004 8:29 am

Thanks for the responses,
Turns out the rear bumper has a screw in the truck and it was so loose it was making a noise over bumps, they snugged it up and the noise is gone. As for the seat, they told me it was a recall/service bulletin and they will work on a fix. Nice ride all in all, body is great and the price is okay at 10k with 39,000 miles, and certified toyota warrenty.
