02 Sienna ECU swap to 02Camry/Solara w/1MZ-FE

Postby SolaraT » Mon Apr 12, 2004 3:22 pm

Anyone ever think of doing it or have done it?

I was just thinking the other day that my 02Sienna has the same engine as the Gen 1.5 Solara. So what makes the HP and Tourque higher? The ECU no?

Sienna Van has something like 220HP and 240T at llower rpm even.

Any thoughts?

I don't have a 1mz in my Solara but just for the record. Good to know stuff. :)

I think it is Becasue it has VVTI. SO i dont think just the Computer will work You will Need the heads also off of the VVTI motor. I have been Thinking real Long and hard about doing this swap. Well i was thinkning about using THE RX300 heads and ECU, But i have a 5 Speed So i would have to use a Automatic ECU and play around with it... :drinking:

In theory it will work UNLESS VVT-i has any mechanical differences (hydraulic retardation of intake)
1GR-FE ftw!

same engine?!?

Postby Sentinel » Tue Apr 13, 2004 10:37 am

I think more likely that the "same engine" has diffferent pistons/cam/intake/exhaust while the block is the same. It could also be that some marketing rep decided to go with a differrent set of figures (Figures don't lie, but liars figure) IMO it isn't a good idea to swap computer parts between cars unless you know someone who has done the mod before and figured out if it works/dosn't work. Besides, if it was that easy to add another 20hp you'd think some aftermarket shop would have an "upgraded" ECU , that's simply a junkyard sienna ECU.

Won't work according to N.H. Toyota. It would be like swapping the mother board of a computer to another, just won't happen without hardware modifications.
