INTAKE? MUFFLER? it's for my 5sfe

hello everyone...

greetings

Anyway, as most of us know, the I4 on the 2001 solara isn't so impressive, though smooth as it is, it just doesn't have enough power to perform some manuevers of mine (no...I'm not THAT crazy)
I just wanted to know that, If I added an Injen Short Ram, how much HP gain would I get? And, does it really improve acceleration? My friend was a toyota technician, and he told me that intakes work for sure, but only if you floor it, is that true?

Also, if I installed an intake, how would it sound?

I love the low "roar" of cars, so I was wondering, if I didn't want to get a whoe exhaust (too pricy), should I just get a regualr universal muffler? Or should I get something like REMUS, who claims that they have the best sound, and offer the most HP?
On their ad, they claim that other muffler you find on ebay from under 50 bucks actually cuts hp from your car, and sounds awful? Anybody with any traumatic experiences here that would like to share to a brother?

I love my car, and I just hope it could be a meaner performing/sounding car...

thanks guys

God bless

With an intake you will be able to hear the engine sucking air into the air intake, which makes it roar a bit.. as far as a muffler, it won't do anything really... u need a catback system to make it work it.. I think a muffler adds like, maybe 3 horse, or something... depending on which exhaust/muffler you get is how it will sound.

Yo, I guess I'm down for both now, just gotta wait another month for my paycheck...

any of you guys have any hook-ups for injen intakes? if so, please notify me?

also...can somebody explain how to install an intake? is it a process that can be done by myself?

thanks

just go buy a K&N drop in replacement.

short ram intakes decreases performance for low end.

these filters run about $45 or somewhere around that area.

For any real power gains, you'll need a full catback. The Evo is louder than the Apexi, and both are quality. There are a few others that also offer exhaust, but I don't have any experience with their products.

As to the short ram, do a search it has been argued about its good/bad points like crazy. Solarat has put together a very good idea here http://www.zer0.info/solaraguy/viewtopic.php?t=7933.

PM me with your email if you need short-ram install pictures.
Let's just pretend I didn't grow up, or you're going to be terribly disappointed.

filter?

Postby bluesolara » Thu Apr 15, 2004 11:20 am

Hello Trdmole

I was just wondering...how much gain would a filter give me? even if not much power...would it sound good?

sound is important to me too...

thanks!

if you want sound, go ahead with the injen intake. i think RS Akimoto and AEM had made something, but not too sure about the I 4 platform.

with the drop in, you will sound stock, b/c you still have the air going through the resonator bin to muffler sound.

gains will be minimal with the drop in. however with it, you will gain a slightly better acceleration response due to less restriction.

I second that, when i had K&N filter, i didnt feel any difference. The exhaust system might make most of difference out those mod. If you just began to "upgrade your car", i would suggest to replace suspension first. The facotry suspension SUCKS!! you will feel more different than other mod

I feel the same way, I use to have the TRD drop-in and while I didnt notice any gain from that compared to the stock paper filter I did feel a difference with the Injen intake w/ my cat-back. The low end thing sucks when your on the streets since youre constanly hitting lights and the car is not in motion. But once youre on the freeway you feel the difference.

And if you mostly drive your car at night, you wont even feel the loss of low end power.

:) Hey Kevin!

Check my www > pics and video section for what I did to my 5s-Fe.

Short RAM... Might get some high end power but does suck in hot air despite the "Heat Shield" that comes with the INJEN IS model. I think that's what your friend was speaking about when he said "Only when you floor it" I managed to connect a cold air extension to it to Aleve that problem and now it runs with more power throughout the RPMs. Checkout the DIY section if you want to start something like that.

Cat back...Thanks to TADS for the wonderful tips and pictures I was able to go for a DIY on my Greddy EVO II. Thanks TADS!

If you really want to jump on the bandwagon and go all out. Get Ripped! See my sig for the link...

I also agree with Ultraslow,
defiantly get suspension mods first
. Stock defiantly is a stinker.

My opinion/recommendation also is: go with "good quality products." & "research allot"
:) Good Luck!
You will love this site and will learn and be inspired. I know I did. Have fun!
