Xenon HID question for Gen 1.0

Xenon HID question for Gen 1.0

Postby nkx1 » Thu Apr 22, 2004 1:54 pm

I searched, but couldn't find a direct answer.

Are HID lights the same as Xenon lights? What I mean is, are the words HID and Xenon interchangeable, or are they two different things? I know real HID's require ballast, etc., and I've seen those cheap "Xenon" lights on ebay that I know are not real HID's. So can someone clear up my confusion? I know it may seem like a dumb question to some, but I just want to know. Thanks!

This is a good post. I always thought Xenon bulbs to be the normal bulbs, just filled with Xenon Gas, and the HID to be the ballast type. However, if you were to buy a car with real HID, it is normally listed on the window sticker as "Xenon Lights"...anybody have a true clarificiation?

http://www.xenonfactory.com/products/hid/philips.htm

Going by what I just read here. I have to conclude that Xenon is a gas and affects the color of the HID also. Xenon can also be found in a HID bulb.

Good point that was brought up as I also relayed Xenon to filament bulbs only and HID as HID. Learn something new everyday!

Wassup guys!

HID? XENON?

Alrite, this is the case

HID stands for High Intensity Discharge...and the Discharge? It means that the ballast ignited the gas XENON (and other noble gases) inside the little arc, and creates the awesome HID we see on the road.

so Xenon is the MAIN INGREDIENT of the HID bulb, and like you guys said, it NEEDS A BALLAST.

Xenon halogen bulbs? Yeah, those are the blue ones that you see...personally, I doubt it's filled with Xenon gas, even if it is, it doesn't do a thing. It's a filament bulb, nothing is being IGNITED, or DISCHARGED. Those bulbs MAY BE filled with xenon gas, but...there is no use.

So basically, true XENON HID headlights need a ballast...that's the bottom of it.

and those people selling "xenon" piece-of-sh%T bulbs on ebay, I just want to kick them...all they do is put up pictures of real HID, and then claim that their bulbs give us that look..no it doesn't...

see...I don't have a problem with those bulbs, and I've used them for 2 years in the past, and I loved them, though they burn out every 8 months or so...I used PIAA, which is a good company. But what I don't like is when people trick newbies To buying their product with lies and deceit. come on...HID is HID, blue bulbs are blue bulbs...

alrite, sorry I got a little emotional, and to everyone out there, save up for HID! you will NOT REGRET IT....

God bless all of you

HID...

Postby bluesolara » Fri Apr 23, 2004 1:32 am

Hello guys!

Well, I got my HID kit for $383 shipped from PLASMAGARAGE.COM, which is by the way, some of the most friendly and professional people I've ever talked to. If you're thinking about a kit, definitely e-mail them your questions...they were so helpful

My lights are so awesome, yeah....my friend turned on his ES300 HID's one night, and it looked SO WHITE...and then I turned mine on...ALL OF A SUDDEn...his look yellow  ...your eyes can really do tricks on you man...

well, that's probably the reason he thinks his looks stock, but in REAL Performance comparison, the BMW HID kills...

first off..they have the projectors, which means wider beam, sharper-cut-off, a color band at the top of the cut-off that FLICKERS... :o , and it uses the 4100k...brightest of them all...

of course it won't look BLUE...but it has better performance, and it defnitely LOOKS blue on the road, because of that band of color..
check my post about HID facts, and you'll see...

so...I agree with you, only to a certain degree, if I had the chance and the money...defnitely 4100k/projector retrofit. but it's like an extra 500 bucks though...

and...in closing..I've gotta say this.... 8) MY LIGHTS ROCK! 8)
and I'm so glad you guys love HID also, no matter what color, what performance, it's YOURS, that's all it matters...and it would kick any halogen's ass...ANYDAY...wahahahahahahahaha....wahahahahaha

God bless

thanks for the reply's guys, especially bluesolara and solarat. now i'm finally clear on the HID issue. $383 doesn't seem too bad for HID's, so i'll have to check that place out.
