has anyone noticed much increase in power with an aftermarket air intake. If you think its worth getting, is that heat shield necessary?

actually, most people have said that it doesn't really do that much of a difference. some members here have put their stock air box back on and found greater gains. (some were S/C'ed)

it may add a few hp but nothing very significant. i wouldn't get the heat shield either; not necessary to me.

I have an Injen SRI and the gains are so minimal I really couldn't tell the difference from stock, but it sounds pretty good.

But if you add on the CAI extension it should help out a lot more.

I definately feel more power with an Injen short-ram and Danny's CAI extension. Without the extension, it's completely WORTHLESS!!!.

Yep. With the short ram you actually get hotter air coming in than with the stock air box. The heat shield does help but hot air is still there. Hotter air = decrease in power. I only noticed slightly better throttle response between 3 - 4.5rpm. (In the winter) hehe.

Get the extension!

some of those air intakes are close to $200, are these any better or different from the ones sold on ebay for $40. Also will the chaper ones fit onto that extension

Yeah I'm guessing the average consumer does not want a loud car (CAI makes it louder). Also, there is a slim chance that water will get into your engine from the CAI :o
