Buying a sunroof

I have a 2002 SE and would like to have a sunroof installed professionally. I would like the sliding automatic kind that has the sliding shade and closes automatically when the car is turning off. What do you think I should expect to pay for something like that?

On top of that, be prepared to pay a lot when it starts to leak after a few years.

Please, for the last time, post in the correct forum. It's not that hard.

Sorry bout posting here, I had posted a question about keyless entry (which I believe was in the right topic area) and just created it where I posted the first post then noticed and looked to see if I could move it with some sort of button to a more appropriate topic but didn't see that option. Is there that option that maybe I just over looked it. Anyway, thanks for the replys. Anymore info on sunroofs would be appreciated.

I remember inquiring about that when I got here and you'll have your share of people that will claim leakage but the odds are that you should be ok if its done right. Expect about 1 - 1.2 thousand for a good installation. I gave up on it cause I rather get all the mods I want first before I get something like that. i.e. molly designs body kit.

Welcome to the forums...
First off...with money anything is possible. You say you want to add a roof...something that looks OEM would cost you close to a grad easily installed at the dealership. The dealership will give you a 3 year warranty on leaks...but provided you bring it back to them yearly for adjustment and tests. After the 3 year mark your on your own..and thats when most of non-factory roof are prone to rusting and leaks.

In regard to something that opens and closes remotely, again anything is possible with today's auxillary options on aftermarket alarms. Someone at clubLexus installed a system on their sc430 where they can remotely open and close their hardtop! (so your roof should be easy..its just how much mulla you want to dish out)...Also, please use the search feature as it has been discussed here earlier as well....

Automatic Sunroof

Postby michaels artic frost » Mon Mar 15, 2004 4:43 pm

Hi,

Just wanted to pass this information along to ya. I've got an 03 Nissan Altima and just had a power sunroof with two memory button press and automatic close installed and the normal price was $1100. However, since I knew this otha guy that knew the sunroof owner. He only charged me $936 total. The sunroof is awesome and very professional. He even offered 3 years warranty on labor and life time in parts.
Below is the site of the sunroof that he installed.

Hope this helps.

When I first purchased my Solara, I inquired about the sunroof installation. I was referred to a company that does the professional installations for the car dealerships. I was sent brochures and everything. There are some sun roof systems that close automatically when the engine is turned off and it doesnt have anything to do with the alarming system of your car. This fully automatic system was said to take about 7 days for installation and it ran right at about 1200 dollars or so....and as far as the leaks, if you are getting the installation done by the factory, i dont see where the leakage would occur on a regular basis. I had been told that if you dont get the roof installed as an option upon car purchase, it will leak. I feel that it doesnt matter whether it after the initial purchase or not, but the quality of the work, otherwise, theoretically speaking all sun roof systems should leak after about 3 years regardless of the time of installation............So do some research on the company, before making the purchase and you should be fine...

Just called up the place and they want $950.00 for the best one they got! They only need the car for one day. There is one that is less $875.00 but it does not have the auto close and one touch close option. (Ya got to keep your finger on it) I think its worth paying a bit more for the best one.

Hmmmm save 4 body kit or sunroof? decisions decisions. Just thought I'd share what prices to look out for. Anything more and you might be getting ripped.

I have an ASC aftermarket roof in my 2000 that is four years old and it never leaks. For some reason people on here like to say that these nonfactory roofs leak, I can tell you from experience I ve seen three of these and none have leaked

you just need an aux button on your alarm/remote and have it wired to the button that does that and wire it to have power and a few other things... it shouldn't have cost tooooooo much x_X

solarat,

So....which one did you decide on getting the body kit or the sunroof? How much is the kit anyways?

haha! Neither! The kit has a special price on the for-sale section sticky. It's like 2-3 hundred more then the sunroof price. Wait till you all see what I have in store as my second car purchase. You will either love me or dis own me!
