Supra Twin Turbo Rotors

Postby CASTRO » Tue Apr 27, 2004 11:46 pm

Heres a new topic that you all prolly havent seen yet. :P Well, I just ordered my brake kit from Ericsol and was now wondering what kinds of rotors you kit owners are running. I checked it out on tirerack for applications for a 98 Supra 2x Turbo and the Slotted/Dimpled Power slots were kinda attractive. Somewhere along those lines would be good. (slotted/dimpled) Just wanted to know:

1.) Which Supra rotors would you all recommend? (Performance in mind)
2.) Where did you get them and at what price?

CASTRO, I guess I'm confused by your question. You can't simply put rotors from a Supra twin turbo on the Solara, the caliper won't fit. Eric made special billet brackets to extend the caliper to fit on these larger rotors. Why not just buy the slotted and dimpled rotors from Eric? Other than that, if you want big brakes, you are looking at $2,000 for a big brake kit. It's not like you just figured out a secret or trick, Eric was clear about where the rotors came from. The big deal was making the brackets so that we can reuse the existing caliper to save money. That way we have a inexpensive big brake kit. -JoeB

I saw that statement that he ordered the "kit" from Eric. That is partly why I was confused. Does that mean he only bought the brackets? If so, I guess he just wants some other rotors for some reason? I just didn't understand. I though the kit came with the brackets and rotors for the front and if you wanted, rotors for the rear also.

I STILL haven't gotten mine on yet. :( Because I plan on painting my calipers and want to do a very good and thorough job, I plan to have the car on jacks for a good week (time constraints) at least. So I'm waiting for my new garage to be finished. I have an attached 2 car garage but we usually use it as the main entrance into the house so I don't want the car out there on jacks. My new 2 car garage will be just for me and the new home for the Red Knight. 8) Hopefully it will be all done in less than 2 weeks. -JoeB

ohhh, sorry guys, i havent been checking up on this thread lately. (school and work) Well, Since I was kinda jumpy on getting rotors, I just went over to a couple of different forums (a site called racingknowledge) or something like that) and did some research on brakes and rotors. I've decided to go with the Brembo blank OEM replacements for the 98 Supra TT. I was going to go powerslot since they look nicer with the dimpled and slotted look but have read and heard about a lot of nasty things about them. (picky with brake pads, warping etc.) The slotted rotors are anyones best bet as far as reliability goes for day to day driving and brembo seems to be the rotor of choice. I thought long and hard about the Slotted brembos but skipped on it for now since I will be using the bracket kit with stock pads (just changed them a month ago!) Slotted rotors eat up too much pad if stock and I currently dont have the funds/needs for a performance pad such as hawk or porterfield. Well thanks for the suggestions and thank you all for your replies.

sorry for the confusion joeb, I recently ordered just the brackets since Eric said that he would no longer me producing them once they are gone. For the rotors, I only decided to get them just yesterday after reading for hours about the advantages/disadvantages and comparisons of slotted/x-drilled/dimpled rotors. They were cheap too, $150 shipped from tirerack.com. BTW interesting thing I just learned was that powerslot rotors are nothing but brembos that are modded by the company! For true lasting rotor power against warping/cracking and best pad life, flat plain disks are best. Slotted comes in second as they stay cooler/expel gas but at each turn will shave the pad slightly giving you that "fresh" surface to work with=shorter pad life. Thank you again all for your help.

I was thinking about that too but you cant pass up the deal over at tirerack.com. brembo OEM style blanks for the Supra TT. 150 shipped is a steal. I dont wanna go x-drilled cause they tend to crack and slotted is too much of a hassle for me as I will be using stock pads. (wear out faster)

some guy i talked to (gen 4 camry) had them and he said the pads have been wearing less because the pad only uses the outer area of the rotor. I think he got the oem
