Radar Detectors

you guys should run a search on the 8500 and see the posts i have put up, because this is getting very repetitive about which detector is better. Price is a factor but that is not even the over factor why it is rated better. You just paying for a better product. :D

Read my post a few above yours. I'm a beltronics dude. WHY? once a cop pulled me over in MN...and i asked him what equpt he used..he told he they only use Beltronics lazar guns? From that day, i vouged to buy beltronics detectors (this was back in 1996 tho). I've had BEL 830, 850 before. i have 2 880's and a 890! (i'd rather have one for my every car than have one V1 hop-scotch cars). I like beltronics..they have saved my butt a few times..but next one i'm gonna get is the Escort 8500!

Escort owns bell. Well they have a parent company that owns them both, but escort is the dominant one. They both use very very similar technology.

Call escort for support and sometimes they answer bell electronics, other times its escort.
My vote is for the 8500

if radar detectors are legal in every state except virginia, what's the purpose of the radar detector detector (RDD)?

I believe canada also has strict laws about detectors but I'm not sure.

Not really sure what the importance is of RDD

how does an RDD work? Do radar detectors emit a signal?
Nascar would be a sport if half the cars were driving the other direction.

At my shop here in Mass. we are fortunate enough to be about 1/2 mile from one of the state police barracks. I say fortunate because we have the opportunity to work on all of thier personal cars. Growing a relationship with them, about a month ago we did our own shoot out for detectors and laser diffusers. The 8500, bel 980 (they are IDENTICAL inside), and K-40 Rd850 ALL outperformed the V1. Don't get me wrong i used a valentine 1 on my CRX for 3 years and its STILL amazing, but i was slightly puzzled to see it fail to the Rd850. Anyhow on the lasser diffuser thing, the 5500 from K-40 did EXCATLY the same as the ZR-3 which made me feel more comfortable with the laser technology. If you get any of the windshield mount radar detectors, PLEASE get a visor mount and a hard-wire kit. Most cops consider that your warning, so if you get caught and they see it, you WILL get a ticket. BTW: detectors are 100% illegal in canada.

Any other questions guys feel free to ask, i have the luxury of living down the street from the national sales manager for escort.

the beltronics web site doesn't list a 980. Do you know if they replaced it, and if so, what the new model is called? On radarbusters.com, they liked the bel rx65 the best.
