Evaporation Canister failure

Evaporation Canister failure

Postby Grazi07 » Tue May 11, 2004 10:37 am

I just got my car checked and the code PO446- VSV valve came up. Apparently the valve inside the Evap. Canister is stuck open and is part of a sealed unit, thus the entire canister has to be replaced. The dealer is quoting me $370 parts and labor. It seems legit to me, but I was wondering if anyone knew a place to get the part or had any other info regarding this. Thanks!

How many miles do you have on your car? Are you in California? Here's the warranty coverage in case it helps:

Federal Emission Coverage: Components under the federal emission defect warranty are covered for 36 months/36,000 miles and specified major emission control components are covered for 8 years/80,000 miles. Specified major emission control components under emission performance warranty are also covered for 8 years/80,000 miles. In addition, emission performance warranty is applicable for 24 months/24,000 miles in states and local jurisdictions that require a periodic EPA-approved inspection and maintenance program.
California Emission Control Coverage: In California and any other state that adopts California emission warranty provisions, performance warranty and defect warranty coverage is applicable for 36 months/50,000 miles, and specific control devices are covered for 7 years/70,000 miles

Hey were did you get that info from? How would one know that a certain part is covered other than asking the dealer?

Good info.

Wow, thats good stuff..... I think the toyotaworld site will be helpful. I'm in RI and have a lil over 43K on my car, so no warranty unfortunately. My dealer was a little higher for labor, so maybe I'll buy the part and go somewhere else. Thanks for the input!

Found the info on a Toyota website:
http://www.toyota.com/vehicles/warranty/warranty.html

From what I can find so far, the catalytic converter is the "major" component.

Thanks!

Yeah seems right. OEM cat cost $800+ for the part itself!
