TRD Pads (brake dust)

TRD Pads (brake dust)

Postby sleepin2000 » Wed May 12, 2004 8:04 pm

Ok, I am currently running Trd brake pads on the front and they are much better at braking but they make a lot of brake dust...a lot. I am in the process of getting ss brake lines and brembo rotors and am considering porterfield brake pads. I know that the porterfield pads are some of the best in braking but how are they on brake dust because I can't deal with another pair like these TRD pads.

porterfields are low in brake dust once they break in, however they do not have that well of stopping power.

??? I have had just the opposite experience.

The porterfields are incredible at stopping. If you search on the forum you can find other members experiences but i have yet to find anyone who is dissatisfied.

Brake dust is fine with them.

No way, they dust like HELL...i have to clean my rims every week, and besides it only last less than 20k...but they do stop very good...and guess what once they got down to like 20%, they squeek like a bi$ch...for the first 10k miles, i'm very happy, now i'm piss becuase of the noise and it wrapped my stock rotor...so I'm going back to creamic

brake pads

Postby Sentinel » Thu May 13, 2004 4:09 am

It's about time to change my rear pads. I've had bad luck with some kinds of brake pads (Especially "lifetime" pads... they don't grip well) I was planning on blowing the cash on Toyota pads, as I figure they have to be decent or "T" wouldn't use 'em. If TRD pads don't last but 20k then I definately don't want 'em.
Q: What do you guys reccomend for a daily driver pad? I think the car brakes fine, as the ABS works on Dry pavement. Should I stick with stock? or is there a good aftermarket pad that's cheaper and works well.

^As far as OEM, go back with Toyota...just be sure to lube the guides with some good brake lube or they will squeal. Not as much squeal as NAPA or AutoZone, but some on damp days...And (of course) have your rotors turned just to be safe...
As far as my EBC Green Stuff pads, they are exellent...but you must get some heat into them (after 2-3 stops) for them to work at their best...the hotter they get, the better they work, and without a lot of dust...for about the same price as OEM Toyota...just a thought.

^ imho my best expire was with EBC green.

those are awesome, but they seem to tear up the rotor more.
