Dead solara?

Dead solara?

Postby Nutty101 » Fri May 14, 2004 10:43 pm

Anyone know what a reasonable price for a dead solara would be? Hunting in colorado for one with no engine. Interior would be really good and the body should be in good shape. Suspension isn't anything I care much about also.. Dunno if anyone here has one they want to get rid of. Fried electronics is ok also. hehe, called some junkyards here for a salvage one but no one has any that are in good shape. Most have major body damage. :(

I am also hunting for a new carpet for inside the car if anyone knows where they can be purchased online. Mine isn't bad but someone spilled coke on it and never told me. So now I have a nasty stain in the back seat. :(

I'm not sure why you would want a dead Solara, unless you are planning to fix it yourself and know lots about doing that. Anyway, the only place I would recommend you is eBay. A few months back I think I remember seeing a few for like $100-$600 that needed some major repairs. I dont think you will find a "dead" Solara in good body shape if that's what you are looking for.

ithink to find what you are looking for will take intensive searching and you will prob end up with a frankenstein solara.

ROFL! Yeah, thats ok cause were going to be ripping it up anyway. Going to convert it to a 2jz rwd. Mostly I just dont want to do a ton of body work to get it going again. Most the ones i have found the frames are tweaked so bad.

Front end damage is ok also, trying to get into some local auctions here but body shops are all over trying there for parts. uugh.

I would be very careful with buying anything from tap, make sure it is the right part and in good condition and not more than dealer price for a new one, those guys will try their hardest to scam you.

Haha, yeah. Well, I will be amazed if they would even sell a shell to a solara. Gonna start hitting some local auctions here and see what comes up. Should be a fun project. We started to look into building out the 1mz motor but in the end there is no way we can get what we are looking for out of the car. So we are gonna rip one up. Remove the fuel tank, move it into the trunk as a fuel cell. Cut out the middle and custom build it so that we can build up the rear and somehow fit the 2jz into it. Laugh, I hope to come in around 30K after were done with it. Though that will prolly not happen.

Got some local guys who are going to build CF parts. Hood, fenders, doors and trunk lid. Right now the biggest part is to locate a solara in good shape. Found one that has some major side impact damage but I just dont want to spend time getting that fixed.

in all honesty..if solara were a 10-15 yr old car..then a bad motor could equate into someone selling it to the junkers. With it just being what 5 years old...a bad engine would be replaced (or even rebuilt). There are cheap 5s and 1mz motors than new cars. I think the closest you should look for are flood cars. Good luck...

Yeah, cept there have been no floods here in colorado. Laugh! If I don't find one by end of June I am going to hit some dealers to see about a cheapo. Most the ones in the paper want more than the dealers. Kinda strange if you ask me.
